I’M JUST BACK FROM FRANCE, AND MY CLASSIC BIKE-OWNING MATE Martin remarks (as he always does), “That sounds great! I’d love to do that. But obviously not on my BSA. It’s not like it’s a BMW R100RS.”
Classic bike owners often dismiss the idea of touring because they don’t have a fairing. Or because they think the engine is too small. But they shouldn’t. Come on Martin, grow a pair – what could go wrong?
I’ve been abroad on my unfaired (albeit modern, but it is Italian) ‘Guzzi many times. I prefer not having a fairing or screen in front of me because I like the clean, quiet airflow of a naked motorcycle. The faired bikes I’ve had have always been noisy, buffety, and required ear plugs.
In any case, what sort of bike you need to go touring… really? I’ve seen people on streamlined, two-wheel juggernauts, with more storage space than a small kitchen.
