What’s it all about: This Hindu festival includes religious ceremonies, but it’s also a time for fun. Celebrations start up to 40 days before, bonfires represent the triumph of good over evil, there are dancing and singing, special food and desserts, the exchange of gifts, and throwing of powder paint and coloured water. Everyone joins in and is fair game! The story of the god Krishna and goddess Radha is thought to be behind throwing the water and paint.
