ALTHOUGH I admire the splendid vintage lifts of yesteryear (‘Love in an elevator’, September), the challenges of installing a lift to ‘future-proof’ listed buildings today are considerable. Our 70-year-old lift did not work and was in the wrong place. After eight months getting listed-building consent, we settled on the same circular, vacuum-driven, see-through PVE lift from Morgan Ellis that television’s Strawbridge family installed in their French property, which fitted perfectly into our round stairwell.
