Film: MILLI VANILLI

Just when you were thinking, “haven’t we heard enough about lip-syncing fakes Milli Vanilli?”,“adds another, richer layer to the saga”. It does this by telling the story from the point of view of Rob Pilatus and Fabrice Morvan and by seeking out many of the people involved. There’s Ingrid Segeith, the business partner of German producer Frank Farian; Arista executives; and the album’s actual singers. However, Farian, who is accused of masterminding the deception, declined to be interviewed. It’s a story about a lie, yes, but also about an industry prepared to push image over substance.
