Laura is finding her new life by the sea invigorating in more ways than one. With the help of ex-lifeboatman Jim, she has seen off her former husband’s demand that she sell the house she inherited from her beloved Aunt Jane. Everyone in the town knows that tunnels run beneath the house, and aspiring local councillor ‘Do-gooder Deirdre’ wants to inspect them. However, Laura can’t find the key to the large door that leads to the tunnels. And she wonders why Deirdre is so determined to see them. What secrets are they hiding? She suspects many of Aunt Jane’s friends know more than they are letting on, including the mysterious Jim. He was the perfect gentleman on their night out, but when her worried daughter warns that he’s likely a rogue, Laura takes a step back. Is she being overcautious? She decides to turn to fortune teller Madame Castilla for answers.
Walking past the garish amusement arcades towards Madame Castilla’s caravan, Laura smiled. She couldn’t help reflecting on how much her life had changed since moving from the city to Aunt Jane’s house in this town.
