In my experience children are more likely to eat fruit and vegetables if they are invested in the whole process; from the growing, to the cooking and then the eating. My earliest memory of gardening was helping my dad in the greenhouse pricking out lettuce and cabbage seedlings to pot on. The wonder of exploring the garden, what was growing, what nature was present and what my dad was doing to protect his bounty from pests and diseases.

My brothers and I were given a colourful book containing pictures of native birds, insects and mammals and we took great pleasure in identifying them. Butterflies and moths being firm favourites, we'd capture caterpillars in our bug boxes to watch the life cycle and release on emerging from
