The mid-’90s was generally a time of hope in South Africa, but a dark cloud hung over our new democracy as a slew of serial killers stalked some of our most vulnerable citizens. It was during this time that Micki Pistorius became the first criminal profiler working for the South African Police Service.
Micki helped to identify and catch some of South Africa’s most prolific killers, including Norman Afzal Simons, known as the Station Strangler; Moses Sithole, who committed the so-called ABC Murders; and Cedric Maake, dubbed the Wemmerpan Killer. She describes those first six years as head of SAPS’ Investigative Psychology Unit in her memoir Catch Me a Killer, which has been adapted for the screen with Charlotte Hope in the lead role.
You may remember Charlotte, or as the formidable Catherine of Aragon in the historical drama series .
