Half-century gal

Shelle Luscombe, 52, West Sussex

How it started…

Sitting with my mum in her nursing home in SJuly 2021, I made my big announcement.

‘I'm doing 50 challenges for my 50th birthday,’ I said, even though she didn't quite understand.

My dad Ian passed away from Parkinson's disease and dementia in December 2017 when he was 75.

So it was heartbreaking seeing my mum, Sue, then 76, now ill with vascular dementia and Alzheimer's.

Didn't seem fair that our family was blighted by this cruel disease again.

That's why I'd come up with my birthday idea.

I thought. Couldn't let it pass me by.
