The seeds of this month's deep-ish and meaningful discussion were sown by an MMM reader contacting me by email, together with, at virtually the same moment, having a conversation with a local shopkeeper who is another MMM reader.

The MMM reader who contacted me by email did so to pose one of those unanswered questions about life, which I've been asking you all to submit and failing miserably to answer in the right way. The email arrived in an unusual way, not by the usual channels of communication. The usual methodwary of intrusions. Aren't we all?
