MAJOR TO MINOR

I was interested to read Sir Johnny Scott’s letter to his nephew, Freddie [Letters to Young Shooters, January issue], but while doing so I could not help but think that he must possess copies of Major Kenneth Dawson’s classics From Major to Minor and Son of a Gun. In the latter, published in 1929, Dawson writes 24 letters to his nephew, John, in exactly the same vein as Sir Johnny advises his nephew. I was brought up with these two invaluable books, as was my son.

On another tack, I am now on my third gamebook, the first dating from 1966 (I should have started earlier) when stationed in Oman during the Dhofar War.
