DIG IN GREEN MANURES
Chop down overwintered green manures such as field beans then dig them into the top layers of soil to incorporate. Leave for at least two weeks before sowing or planting.
PLANT ONIONS
Plant onion and shallot sets once soil is workable. Allow 30cm (12in) between rows, spacing onions 10cm (4in) apart and shallots 15cm (6in) apart. Protect from birds.
