Freightliner shunt driver Bessie Matthews appreciates No. 66587 and the colour it brings to her night shift.

IT’S no secret that I am obsessed with Southampton Maritime and the stories that come from within.

I’ve been fully passed out as a shunt driver for all of 10 months now, but already I’ve been witness to so much:

Visits from museum-piece locos, wildlife around the yard, new liveries on old friends, and naming ceremonies (to name but a few.)

Three years before my time, however, was the unveiling of something that has turned heads every day since. It’s big, it’s bright, it’s magenta… it’s No. 66587 AS ONE, WE CAN.

I think we can all appreciate how exciting something out of the norm can be, especially when it’s as beautiful as this ‘66’. Even on these cold, dark,
