BLUE MOUNTAINS
CELEBRATING DISABILITY
Residents of the Blue Mountains celebrated International Day of People with Disability (IDPWD).
IDPWD, held on Dec 3, is a global United Nations event that celebrates the achievements and contributions of people with disability, and how this enriches our community and culture.
Blue Mountains Mayor Mark Greenhill said the event was about breaking down barriers and celebrating abilities of all kinds.
This year, the Council celebrated IDPWD with local author, Tish Peiris and her new book The Saddest Girl.
Tish was a former journalist from Sri Lanka when she had an accident that resulted in an acquired brain injury. The Saddest Girl tells the story of a girl called Daisy, who struggles with her mum's brain injury. It is a retelling of Tish's own story and experiences.
