It’s unlikely the Australian government knew at the time how important this factory would become, but it must have been at least relieved when the Amalgamated Wireless Australasia (AWA) and Radio Corporation of America (RCA) joint-venture to make radio valves in Australia became a reality in 1932. Events during the 1930s made it clear war clouds were gathering and in the event of war, Australia couldn’t guarantee the supply of the overseas technology components it now relied on.
