THE Orange River is South Africa’s largest, longest and most significant river. It originates in the Maloti Mountains and Drakensberg in Lesotho, where it’s known as the Senqu River. From there the Orange River flows almost 2 200km westward, through the Eastern Cape, Free State and Northern Cape, eventually ending in the Atlantic Ocean at Alexander Bay on the West Coast of South Africa.
