A campervan dream realised
It is amazing sometimes how things have a way of working out, even if it means going full circle. Thinking back 40 years when we embarked on our journey with two small children, in a Hovis loaf of a tent, we could only envy the dream of a motorhome. Years moved on. Careers changed and opportunities blossomed. The idea of a motorhome never dimmed.
In our 60s with a generous budget it was now or never. We sensibly dipped our toes in the ocean of motorhomes by hiring various luxury models
After the initial excitement of trying different sizes and configurations there was a big question. Why was the reality not living up to our dreams?
Not being ones to give up on a dream, we visited a major caravan and motorhome event in late 2019 and found our passion rekindled, but gravitating towards campervans. The V-Line 540 and the Chausson V594 were within our budget, at a push. Yet something was still not right.
Then, at home, that Eureka moment of discovery! Sitting on the drive was our faithful 2015 Citroën Relay L1H1 van, which had only 40,000 miles on the clock and was in semi-retirement from our antique dealer lives. It was the answer to our dreams.
However, it was a challenge too far for a man who considers putting up a shelf as a feat of engineering. Hence the search started for a company to build our dream.
Following numerous conversations and unanswered emails, we were at the point of giving up. Wham! Virtually on our doorstep we found Young Conversions in Milton Keynes.
From the moment we met with the owners, we knew we were in safe hands. Firstly, they listened to our ideas and dreams. Then contributed their personal experiences of summer and winter holidaying and travelling. They totally understood what it was that we wanted and what we would need on our adventures.
Young’s bespoke craftmanship and expertise utilised our precious space, maximising every centimetre to best effect. The antique furniture van with an uncertain future is now the vehicle of our dreams, a veritable Tardis. We have the day-to-day functionality and all the essentials we need. Not what we expected
Having purchased a new Hymer motorhome from Becks, Norfolk, in March and suffering the vagaries of lockdown and Covid restrictions along with many others, we were unable enjoy its use until campsites opened and restrictions eased. More often than not, with all new motorhomes there are usually some warranty issues.
We called into the dealership, having made an appointment, on 22 September to report the problems. On arrival, the workshop manager came and inspected those issues and we went away with the knowledge that it would be
