A breech presentation means that the foetus lies in a longitudinal line of the uterus, but with the presenting part being the sacrum and not the head. Before 25 weeks, the incidence of breech presentation is 28 percent. But by delivery, this has decreased to around 3 to 4 percent of pregnancies.
The attitude of the breech can vary, depending on the flexion of the limbs.
BREECH PRESENTATIONS
COMPLETE BREECH
In this breech position, the attitude is one of complete flexion. The thighs are up against the abdomen, and the lower leg is flexed on the thigh. This and frank breech are the most common types of breech presentation.
FRANK BREECH
This is a breech presentation with extended legs. The thighs are flexed on the abdomen, and the lower legs are extended (the legs are straight and not bent at the knee). These babies are almost impossible to turn.
