Looking at the accused killer sitting in front of me, I took in his body language and speech pattern, concentrating on every word.

Then I started asking him for all the details of his life.

His family, childhood experiences and what led to the alleged murder.

My job is to assess the defendant’s state of mind at the time of an alleged crime and to give evidence about this before the judge and jury at a crown-court trial.
