e rarely question the names of places, accepting them as a matter of fact, yet they often hold the key to unlocking the rich history of an area. finds its origins in the Old Norse word , meaning castle, likely a reference to the castle-like monastery that dominated the area. While now only ruins, it is still an impressive feature, adding interest and intrigue to the park and aviary that occupy the space surrounding it. The story behind the part of Bury’s name is a little less straightforward.
