MEET THE AUTHOR
After leaving for Dakar, Senegal, in 2008 for a planned three-month trip, Lerato Mogoatlhe extended her travels and drifted around Africa for another five years, visiting 21 countries. Vagabond – Wandering through Africa on faith, her honest and often hilarious travelogue, has been described as South Africa’s answer to Eat Pray Love.
After hanging around with the likes of John Legend and Beyoncé as an entertainment journalist, what made you decide to drop everything and travel? I was bored with my life. Sure, it’s great to party with stars for a pay cheque – I’m not saying it wasn’t fun – but one of my biggest fears is being one thing for too long. Two years as an entertainment journalist was enough. I wanted to live my dreams instead of watching others live theirs. My biggest dream has always been to experience Africa.
