Crane Chronicles

On June 20, 1970, Carol Ciesla and I visited the Crane Mountain fire tower, then hiked along the summit ridge to the Crane Pond Overlook, where I proposed to her. Fortunately, she said yes, and we married at that same spot on the mountain the following June. I signed the official fire-tower register that day in 1970, as the 138th visitor.

Originally “Crain’s Mountain,” the peak was most likely named for Moses Crain, who led a surveying party
