Winter is a wonderful time of year, full of holiday gatherings, crackling fires, crisp air, and — for many lucky people — freshly fallen snow. But this season is also marked by cold, dry weather. And the colder tem peratures and lower humidity affect the conditions of your skin and hair. We raise the heat indoors, which also dries indoor air. Humidity drops in winter months where temperatures are mild too, so winter is the season when everyone needs a good moisturizer! Even if you have oily skin, you may need to start using one; if you have dry skin, you may want to apply an extra-strength cream or lotion.
Dryness strikes where your skin’s oil glands are weakest. Cheeks, arms, and legs have almost no sebaceous oil glands, and therefore get drier during winter months. The skin on our hands is thinner than in other places, so it also needs extra protection and care. After washing your hands, always dry them thoroughly and apply a good hand cream. Wearing gloves outdoors will protect your skin and keep it soft. And, of course, the “Winter Moisturizer” recipe on Page 34 will help
