Sheila Rae, the Brave is a warm, humorous, and loving story of sibling sympathy and support. Just because Sheila Rae is older, she doesn't always know better!

This classic picture book about overcoming fear is written and illustrated by Kevin Henkes, the nationally bestselling and celebrated creator of Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse, Owen, and Kitten's First Full Moon.

"I am very brave," Sheila Rae said, patting herself on the back. She wasn't afraid of anything—not thunder, not lightning, not the big black dog at the end of the block. And when she wanted to walk home a new way and Louise wouldn't, she called her sister a scaredy-cat and set out alone. But all the bravado in the world failed to help when Sheila Rae found herself lost. Luckily, her sister was not far behind.

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

The mouse heroine of Henkes's pitch-perfect comedy doesn't frighten easily?she even growls at stray dogs. But when she gets lost, it's her "scaredy cat" sister who helps her find the way home. Ages 4-up.
Copyright 1996 Reed Business Information, Inc.

From the Back Cover

Sheila Rae is not afraid of anything. She walks backwards with her eyes closed, steps on every crack, growls at stray dogs, and bares her teeth at stray cats. But when Sheila Rae becomes lost on the way home from school, it is her "scaredy cat" sister, Louise, who shows her a thing or two about bravery and sibling love.

HORRIFYING!!!
1 out of 5 stars
HORRIFYING!!!
I can't even begin to describe the horror after I bought this book for my granddaughter of what was on the pages! It is so disturbing I can't believe that these other reviews are real! I have never seen anything so sick and twisted in a children's book!!!! One excerpt: "Sheila Ray made believe the cherries in her fruit cocktail where the eyes of dead bears and she ate five of them" I would give it a negative-5 star review if I could. Totally unacceptable reading for any child... or human being for that matter!!!! You can NOT un-see this!

The story takes an interesting turn and gives the reader a sense of confidence to know that even the bravest of us will sometimes be scared.

Mais do que um livro infantil, é um clássico infantil americano utilizado em salas de aulas de todos os Estados Unidos. Vale a pena ler para alunos, e discutir sua proposta com as crianças. Muito interessante e útil.
