    It amazes me...

    It amazes me...
OK, I'll admit it.... I am OLD! I was 8 years old when Sputnik launched, watched it pass overhead, and have watched the progress we have made in just my lifetime, and kids today have NO idea how much. They've had all the technology all their lives, they take it for granted. They can't appreciate that the Apple watch they wear on their wrists, has 1,000's of times more computing power than Apollo 11's computer had.Being old doesn't mean I don't understand the technology - I started into computers before Windows existed, ran DOS, just getting into network setups, and the internet wasn't out there yet.So, yeah, I can program my phone, thank you kindly. It amazes me how they can fit so much into such a tiny package anymore - and no more moving parts to boot. The other picture was a 5 MB hard drive in 1956 for comparison.I'm getting a new PC in a few days, and right now I have a 2T and a 500G HD (not SSD's) I've been using for storage, so I am moving everything over from them to this drive to cut down on clutter, and also, since it's a SSD, for more confidence I won't lose everything because my mechanical HD crashed. Had that happen to me once, and still curse the day! Lost a lot of memories because of it.Still in the process of moving, I wouldn't call it blinding speed, but I'm putting that blame on the 2 HD's I'm going to be moving stuff from - I've had them a few years. My new PC has a SSD drive, and USB 3 ports, so it should move better then.Oh yeah, the cable is a USB C at both ends, you may want to get the adapter. I ended up buying a USB A(?) to USB C adapter cord, worked fine, also gave me a longer cord. The cord that comes with it is only 12" long, which limits where you can put it; the cable I bought is 3', and only cost about $8, so now I can put it where I want.I'm satisfied so far.
    Thank you for your feedback

From a realistic standpoint, the Crucial X10 Pro offers exceptional speed and durability, making it a practical choice for anyone in need of reliable portable storage.

Speed: Perfect for quick file transfers, video editing, and gaming.

Durability: Its rugged aluminum case handles drops and bumps, and it’s compact enough to fit in your pocket. Its lightweight design makes it less prone to impact damage.

Versatile: Available in sizes from 500GB to 4TB, it’s plug-and-play with Windows, MacOS, and Android. There's no need to worry about the size of the drive since all capacities come in the same dimensions.

Security: Built-in hardware encryption keeps your data safe.

Bottom Line: Although pricier, its performance and features make it a solid investment for reliable, high-speed storage. From my experience, the Crucial X10 Pro outperforms the Samsung T9 in both performance and build quality in every way.

Example: In my everyday use, I transfer 800GB to 1TB of data for personal needs. The Samsung T9 transfers at 30 to 60 MB/s, while the Crucial X10 Pro achieves speeds of 300 to 500 MB/s.

I initially liked the small size and have trusted the brand Crucial for other things in the past. But this drive started crashing immediately. Mac OS's Disk Utility showed it had un-repairable errors. I spent days on Google trying to fix it and eventually called Crucial. They said to reformat it and try again.

I backed up as much as I could, and started over with reformatting. It worked for a couple weeks, then again started crashing and corrupting data. I called Crucial and they said again to reformat it. I said no, I want a replacement.

They sent out a replacement and I spent a day getting it set up restoring data back on it and began working. Within days Mac OS's Disk Utility showed it had un-repairable errors. I reformatted it again, and this time tried a different format. Instead of APFS, I did Mac OS Extended. A few days in and it's already down again with the same errors.

There is something wrong with this drive. I can not trust it with any of my work data. I don't want another replacement. I've spent days and weeks trying to get it working and just want my money back. I've only had this new replacement for 2 weeks, and the original was purchased 4 months ago. I have other drives that have worked flawlessly for years. I can't get these to work for a couple weeks. Refund my money and take this back.

I was gifted a Mac Mini M4 256 GB. Needed more space for video editing. I've edited several videos with the drive connected to the back of the Mac Mini. No issues so far and very little heat coming from it. Transfer speeds are really impressive. It has a little white light on it that pulses to let you know when there is activity going on.

First off, this is a wonderful SSD. It is lightning fast, and, aside from some initial issues, compatible with a huge range of devices and operating systems. It's probably the fastest external SSD that I have ever personally used, but I don't have benchmarks or anything to back that up. I was able to move 400 gigabytes of downloads from my computer to the drive in less than 30 minutes. The compatibility with crucial storage executive is also useful.

However. They did something incredibly stupid and I'm having trouble trying to figure out exactly why. Instead of formatting the entire drive as a single partition with a common format such as exFAT, they broke it up into two partitions. One partition is the main drive, and is formatted like you would expect, but in front of that is a very tiny unknown partition. That causes severe issues on Android, because Android tries to mount the first disk/partition that it comes across, and since crucial decided to put an apparently pointless and unformatted partition right at the front of the drive, that's the one that Android sees. So unless you go in and nuke the partitions and reformat the whole drive, you're going to have compatibility issues depending on what you plug this into. I have no conceivable idea why they would have this second tiny partition. It was only a few hundred megabytes, not big enough to really hold anything substantial. It didn't seem to have a file system that could be recognized by any disc software that I'm aware of, and it's apparently not necessary for using with the crucial storage executive (which I initially suspected). Removing all of the partitions and reformatting the drive does not affect its ability to be managed by the crucial storage executive. So... There's literally no reason that they should have put this partition in, and all it does is decrease the capabilities of the drive, so whoever made this decision is some kind of idiot. (Edit: It's almost infinitely unlikely, but it's possible, in the most exotic and extreme sense, that they use this partition to store extra blocks of NAND to compensate as individual cells fail. If this is the case, this is the dumbest implementation I've ever seen on an SSD. Usually they are under-provisioned at the hardware and firmware level, and the firmware has access to a little bit more flash memory than the operating system does. When cells fail, they activate the appropriate number of reserve cells, extending the useful life and preserving the actual capacity of the drive. Again, I emphasize, this almost is required to be done at the firmware level. Implementing this with some kind of hidden partition just doesn't make sense. The user should never see the over-provisioned flash memory reserved for repairs. If this is indeed the case, I recommend not using this drive, as it is designed with an inherent fault. However, since I've never seen this done anywhere else, I doubt that's the case. It's just literally the only thing I could think of.)

There's a decent chance that that complaint doesn't apply to you, but for those who use it in a professional IT or with multi-device administration, it's not going to behave quite the way you expect right out the box.

Nicely made, very tiny. Mounts on my MACOS desktop with no fuss. I'm not trying to edit/save video to/from this drive in real time. So speed is not of the essence. But copies my 128GB SD card data over in a few seconds. As a solution to free up space on my laptop SSD, I am not sure what else one could need?

I connected this to my laptop which was getting full. I moved a bunch of high resolution images to it and it is FAST! This is the fastest external drive I've ever had. Since it has a drive letter assigned, it is now included in my backblaze backup (which offers unlimited size for all drives on a computer). I used to use a NAS to store backups, but this is so easy, less expensive, and with backblaze cloud backup, just as dependable.

The other bonus is how tiny this drive is. I was pleasantly surprised to see how small it really is.
