4.8 4.8 out of 5 stars 3,014 ratings

This book is written by Harold. His fulltime occupation is dog. He lives with Mr. and Mrs. Monroe and their sons Toby and Pete. Also sharing the home are a cat named Chester and a rabbit named Bunnicula. It is because of Bunnicula that Harold turned to writing. Someone had to tell the full story of what happened in the Monroe household after the rabbit arrived. Was Bunnicula really a vampire? Only Bunnicula knows for sure. But the story of Chester's suspicions and their consequences makes uproarious reading. Since its first appearance in 1979, Bunnicula has been a hit with kids and their parents everywhere, selling over 8 million copies and winning numerous awards.

What a sheer delight--I read this every Halloween and three additional times a year!
How sad I was to learn that Deborah Howe did not live to see this work published. But what a legacy she left behind with this work she co-wrote with her husband James. He has continued to delight readers with an entire series and the continuation of Bunnicula's story is absolutely delightful! I listen to the audiobook, beautifully narrated by the awesome Victor Garber at least four times a year just for the smile factor. Bunnicula is found in a theater showing a Dracula movie attended by the Monroe family. The family has a mom, dad, two boys, a cat Chester, and a dog Harold--the writer who tells us the stories of the series. Bunnicula has fangs and isn't active during the day. Chester the cat is the only one who suspects Bunnicula's true nature--A vegetable-sucking creature of the night. Don't be put off by the fact that this book was targeted at young children. The Bunnicula series is pure enjoyment for anyone at any age!

**⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Delightfully Spooky and Hilarious Tale for All Ages!**

"Bunnicula: A Rabbit-Tale of Mystery" is an absolute gem of a book that will entertain both kids and adults alike! The Monroe family brings home a mysterious rabbit they find at the theater, and soon their other pets—Harold the dog and Chester the cat—begin to suspect that Bunnicula might not be your average bunny. Chester's wild theories about Bunnicula being a vampire rabbit who drains vegetables of their juice had me laughing out loud.

The story is written with a perfect blend of humor, mystery, and just a touch of spookiness, making it a fun read for all ages. The characters are lovable, especially Harold with his laid-back attitude and Chester with his over-the-top paranoia. The way the story unfolds, with clever twists and light-hearted suspense, kept me hooked from beginning to end.

This book is a perfect introduction to the mystery genre for younger readers, with its easy-to-follow plot and engaging narrative. But even as an adult, I found myself thoroughly enjoying the witty writing and charming storyline. It's a timeless classic that I can see myself returning to again and again. Highly recommend!

This is an old favorite of mine, the story of a tiny rabbit found in a box on a theater seat, where the movie "Dracula" is showing. Clever Harold, the family dog, and suspicious Chester, the family cat, are alarmed to find white vegetables in the family's fridge and soon realize that Bunnicula's little vampiric teeth are draining the veggies of their juice. Hilarity ensues, as Chester is terrified and tries to thwart the little bunny's midnight raids, while Harold feels sorry for Bunnicula and tries to protect him. All ends well, the three become friends, and two sequels tell of more adventures, misunderstandings, and mix-ups. A good, (extremely) light listen.
