American Civics Course with Michael Farris

A profound understanding of civic duties and constitutional rights, underpinned by conservative values and christian principles, is essential for nurturing informed, principled leaders.

American civics with Michael Farris

I’m THRILLED to be sharing about a new American Civics Course (taught by Michael Farris) for high school students, or parents, or younger siblings. It is absolutely FANTASTIC. I’ve listened to most of the lectures over the past month or so, and it has reignited my LOVE for America’s founding, and my desire to be an informed and involved citizen. With the fast-approaching presidential election, it’s even more important to be reminded on the original intent of the role of government established by our Constitution. There are three purchasing options available (described below): individual student use, co-op use, video only (for adults or older teens wanting a refresh in American civics). I highly recommend the video-only course for you if you’re wanting to be more prepared for election day!

With 33% of college students favoring socialism over free enterprise, and 63% feeling intimidated sharing opinions different than their peers, now more than ever, it’s incredibly important to have a deep understanding of American civic duties and our Constitutional rights. Was America’s founding legitimate? What type of government did our Constitution establish? What are the branches of government? What are checks and balances? Are the ideals that motivated America’s founding worth preserving?

The course is a 30-week American Civics Course will guide you and your students to a deeper understanding of three core subject areas: 1) America’s founding principles, 2) the mechanics of government and lawmaking, and 3) the Constitution that makes our system of government possible.

Who is Michael Farris?

Michael Farris – the instructor of this course – is a modern day founding father. His lifetime devotion to protecting and preserving our freedoms (particularly parental rights and the right to homeschool) is unmet in modern days. He worked tirelessly in the 1980s to help make homeschooling legal in all 50 states, founded the Home School Legal Defense Organization in 1983, dreamed up and started a conservative christian college (my alma mater, Patrick Henry College) in 2000, has argued twice before the United States Supreme Court, and continues to fight for free speech, parental rights, and constitutional freedoms.

His education includes a Bachelor’s degree in political science from Western Washington State College, where he graduated magna cum laude. He also earned his Juris Doctor from Gonzaga University and a Master of Laws from the University of London, with honors. Michael Farris played a pivotal role in lobbying Congress for the passage of the Religious Freedom Restoration Act of 1993 and has been an executive committee member of the Coalition for the Free Exercise of Religion. He is also a prolific writer, authoring over 15 books, along with numerous scholarly and popular articles, contributing to the dialogue on freedom, religion, and the Constitution. Beyond his professional achievements, he and his wife, Vickie, are proud parents to 10 children and numerous grandchildren.
