The causes of earthquakes can be multiple and diverse, including those related with human activity.
Various types of energy should then be evaluated besides the ones of tectonic origin, in order to build a specific
modeling system of the data, which may support a probabilistic earthquake prediction in the short term. Among them,
there are gravitational, inertial, electric and electromagnetic energies. The scientific question which the authors have
tried to answer in the present study, is whether the global M6+ seismic activity is preceded by an increase in the solar
activity, and in particular in the ionic variation of the solar wind. For this purpose, an analysis was performed on 428
earthquakes with greater than or equal to M6+ magnitude, which occurred on a global scale between 2012 and 2014.
The data on seismicity have been compared with those provided by the geomagnetic observatories and those on the
solar modulation transmitted by the ACE satellite orbiting the L1 point at 1.5 million kilometers from Earth. As the
results reveal, the analyzed earthquakes with magnitude greater than M6+ have shown a remarkably higher
occurrence during the phases of increase and decrease of the proton density of the solar wind.

Modeling and simulation of a PV-Wind hybrid electric power generation system is presented in this paper. The system generates power from wind and solar energy sources and also supplies power to the Faculty of Engineering Teaching Workshop, University of Maiduguri, Nigeria. Ten years meteorological data (wind speed and solar irradiation) for Maiduguri was collected from the National Metrological Agency (NIMET) and analyzed using statistical and simulation software (HOMER). Theoretical models for predicting the electrical power generation potential of the hybrid system was developed and the wind and solar energy potentials of the desired site was investigated and analyzed. According to the results obtained through the analysis, the site has abundant solar energy and wind energy potential, about 2-5MWh/m 2 /yr of electrical power can be generated by using the hybrid system under ideal condition. The electric load of the workshop obtained from the energy audit carried out was about 370kWh/day and the scaled peak load is 140kW. The modeling, simulations and design has been carried out using the HOMER software based on the promising findings of these two renewable energy resource potentials. The software generates the simulation results which are lists of feasible power supply systems have been and arranged in ascending order according to their net present cost.

Geomagnetic virtual pole positions (VGP's) calculated from archaeomagnetic directional data are compared with three ancient accounts of low latitude observations of the Aurorae boreales, viz. by Aristotle (384-322 BC), Seneca (55 BC-40 AD) and simultaneously by Chinese astronomers in Hangzhou, China and by European observers in Prague in 1138 AD, October 13th.

On January 11, 1997, at 03:40:00 UT, while Polar was traveling up the dusk flank toward apogee, two ion instruments, TIDE and TIMAS, detected upflowing H + with an energy/pitch-angle dispersion resembling an ionospheric reflection of freshly injected solar wind ions. In the same region of space, TIDE and TIMAS observed cold beams of O + and H + traveling down the field line with equal bulk velocities. We interpret these ion signatures as concurrent observations of mirrored solar wind ions and downward accelerated ionospheric ions. By 03:42:00, an energy/pitch-angle dispersion of downward moving ions at very low energies was clearly evident in the TIDE data. This additional signature is interpreted as an indication of reconnection on the same field line in the southern hemisphere. We explain this unique combination of plasma distributions in terms of high-latitude reconnection and magnetic field line convection during northward-IMF conditions associated with the January 1997 magnetic cloud event.
