With the recent realization of the extent to which adolescents are committing sexual offenses, researchers have attempted to identify valid and reliable assessment instruments for this population. Some such assessment instruments (i.e., plethysmography, self-report) have met with criticism relative to their utility with juvenile offenders. The present study aimed to assess the validity of the Abel Assessment for sexual interest™(AASI) with male adolescents who have molested children. Results indicated that the amount of time male adolescent child molesters viewed slides of children was significantly longer than nonmolesters. Additionally, viewing time of slides of children for male adolescent child molesters was significantly correlated with their number of victims and the number of times they carried out acts of child molestation. These results support the AASI as a valid measure of sexual interest in adolescent male child molesters.

The aim of this study was to investigate the number and type of brain abnormalities and their influence on psychosocial development, criminal history and paraphilias in sexual murderers. We analyzed psychiatric court reports of 166 sexual murderers and compared a group with notable signs of brain abnormalities (N = 50) with those without any signs (N = 116). Sexual murderers with brain abnormalities suffered more from early behavior problems. They were less likely to cohabitate with the victim at the time of the homicide and had more victims at the age of six years or younger. Psychiatric diagnoses revealed a higher total number of paraphilias: Transvestic fetishism and paraphilias not otherwise specified were more frequent in offenders with brain abnormalities. A binary logistic regression identified five predictors that accounted for 46.8% of the variance explaining the presence of brain abnormalities. Our results suggest the importance of a comprehensive neurological and psychological examination of this special offender group.

Paraphilic infantilism is characterized by the presence of sexual arousal when playing childhood roles and/or using diapers.
The aim of the paper is to present the characteristics of behaviors related to paraphilic infantilism based on cases reported in mass media, as well as to introduce selected etiological hypotheses of these behaviors.
Scientific literature describes a few cases of persons playing childhood roles and having sexual fantasies about these behaviors. In mass media, an incomparably greater material can be found, indirectly demonstrating that paraphilic infantilism is not limited to individual cases.
As it is the case with other paraphilias, no etiological hypotheses for paraphilic infantilism have found empirical support. The hypotheses include the psychodynamic hypothesis, claiming that paraphilic infantilism results from regression due to a trauma in the early childhood, the theory of erotic target location error, indicating that paraphilic infantilism is characterized by erotic fantasies directed towards oneself, and not towards a sexual partner, and a hypothesis referring to the relationship between paraphilic infantilism and sadomasochism.
The behaviors related to the paraphilic infantilism and its etiology appear to be an important research subject. In spite of abundant indirect evidence of the high prevalence of these behaviors, the topic has not been the subject of thorough scientific research.

Introduction. Antiandrogen therapy has been used for 30 years to treat paraphilic patients and sexual offenders. Yet the therapeutic success of antiandrogens is uncertain. Furthermore, there is still a lack of comprehensive knowledge about the effects of androgen-lowering therapy in paraphilic patients. Aim. We discuss endocrinological, neurobiological, and therapeutic aspects of paraphilia with the aim of integrating these on the basis of the current neurobiological and clinical knowledge on testosterone that was set out in Part I of this review. Methods. Our review of the human literature comprises the current knowledge about the neurobiology of paraphilia and the known endocrinological, pathophysiological, and genetic aspects of this disorder. The role of testosterone is discussed. A survey of antiandrogen therapy and its outcome in paraphilic patients and sex offenders is provided.

Cyproterone acetate is a powerful antiandrogen used in the treatment of the paraphilias for at least a decade. Studies have reported it effective in reducing the recidivism rates of sexual crimes perpetrated by men. It acts through competitive inhibition of the androgen receptors blocking the effects of testosterone and dihydrotestosterone. Systematic clinical study of its effectiveness and its clinical effects on sexual behavior is lacking, however. In the current study 19 paraphilic men who had also recidivated in a variety of sexual crimes were treated with cyproterone acetate and placebo in a double-blind crossover design. The use of active drug was associated with a significant reduction of some aspects of sexual behavior, particularly sexual fantasies. There were also significant effects on levels of circulating sex hormones and some effects on physiological measurements and self-reports of sexual arousal.

Jednostka doświadcza pobudzenia seksualnego w wyniku obserwacji lub wykonywania czynności z okresu dzieciństwa odgrywanych przez dorosłe osoby, lub poprzez kontakt z dziecięcymi przedmiotami. Co interesujące, infantylizm parafiliczny wykracza poza doświadczenia na poziomie jednostek – zasugerowano, że jest on seksualną subkulturą.
Celem niniejszego badania internetowego było rozpoznanie wybranych charakterystyk psychologicznych infantylistów parafilicznych oraz weryfikacja empiryczna wcześniejszych doniesień. Uczestnikom badania zaprezentowano Inwentarz Płci Psychologicznej, Skalę samooceny SES M. Rosenberga, Skalę Satysfakcji z Życia SWLS, Skalę Oceny Związku oraz Kwestionariusz Stylów Przywiązaniowych KSP.
Grupę uczestników badania stanowiło 38 osób (38 mężczyzn) identyfikujących się z różnymi przejawami infantylizmu parafilicznego. Średni wiek badanych wyniósł 22.9 lat (SD=7.0).
Średni wynik IPP na skali Męskości wyniósł M=60,11 (SD=10,12), natomiast na skali Kobiecości wyniósł on M=65,74 (SD=9,79). Średni wynik SES wyniósł M=27,89 (SD=8,73), a SWLS wyniósł M=19,95 (SD=7,24). Średni wynik stylu przywiązaniowego KSP „bezpiecznego” wyniósł M=45.14 (SD=8,64), „lękowo-ambiwalentnego” M=29,07 (SD=12,38) oraz „unikowego”, M=16,43 (SD=5,34).
Wyniki wskazują na to, że osoby identyfikujące się z infantylizmem parafilicznym wykazują znacząco różny profil płci psychologicznej w porównaniu do próby normalizacyjnej mężczyzn. Infantylistów parafilicznych cechuje takie same poczucie satysfakcji z życia jak próba normalizacyjna mężczyzn. Badana grupa wykazuje w niewielkim stopniu niższą samoocenę w porównaniu do próby normalizacyjnej mężczyzn. Znaczące różnice między grupą badawczą a normalizacyjną odnotowano w KSP, z czego szczególnie interesujące jest, że w próba badawcza wykazała się znacznie mniejszym nasileniem stylu „unikowego”.
Wyniki badania nie uprawniają do wnioskowania o całej populacji infantylistów parafilicznych, ponieważ jedynym standardem porównania była próba normalizacyjna.

There are few experimental investigations of the effects of social-skills training (SST) on sexual deviation. This study used a multiple baseline across 4 subjects with undesired sexual arousal to investigate the effects of heterosocial-skills training and covert sensitization on heterosocial skills and sexual-arousal patterns. SST produced large increases in heterosocial skills but it had unclear effects on sexual arousal. Subsequently, covert sensitization tended to reduce remaining deviant arousal but did not increase appropriate arousal significantly. These data generally support the view that individual components of sexual arousal require separate assessment and intervention.

This research will endeavor to offer powerful social and historical content for the subject’s social emergence, seek to demystify Fetish/Kink/BDSM (Bondage, Dominance, Sadism, Masochism (BDSM)), to challenge the DSM-5 Paraphilic  Disorder, reframe the A & B diagnostic criterion classifications, to explore the subject’s underground lifestyle from a psychosocial point of view, to offer sixteen (N=16) personal interview findings from sexually variant women of color in the fetish/BDSM lifestyle, and to advocate for inclusive sex-positive awareness acceptance.

Various factors affect the consistency and variability of behaviour and the model has formed a basis for the development of a concept as to which behaviours might be the more useful for identifying linked offences. This more systematic approach to the investigative and intelligence processes is reliant on a victim's statement containing very detailed information about the offender's actions, together with a record of as much of his speech as can be recollected. The material required is described using the model and the text is illustrated with case examples. Instances are quoted of the possible inferences and their relevance to the investigation of sexual offences.

Unofficial records held by police and Children's Aid Societies proved to be the best data for estimating recidivism. These data revealed increases in recidivism with longer follow-up periods, but there were consistent advantages for the treated over the untreated patients, Men who had sexually abused the daughters of other people demonstrated the clearest treatment benefits, The younger offenders and those who had engaged in genital-genital contact with their victims were more likely to reoffend even if they were treated. Contrary to the expectations of behavior therapists, indices of deviant sexual preferences did not predict outcome.

Badania nad seksualnością człowieka przez ostatnie dziesięciolecia koncentrują się na patologicznej sferze tych zachowań. Jednym z nowszych podejść, które znajduje zastosowanie w badaniu nad seksualnością człowieka jest psychologia pozytywna.
Celem referatu jest przedstawienie wybranych zastosowań psychologii pozytywnej w badaniach nad seksualnością człowieka oraz wybranych obszarów aplikacyjnych, przy uwzględnieniu ich ograniczeń metodologicznych oraz obszarów deficytowych.
Przedmiotem zainteresowania seksuologii w ujęciu psychologii pozytywnej (ang. sex-positive perspective) jest koncentracja na mocnych stronach seksualności danej osoby. Zwraca się uwagę na elastyczność w doborze zachowań seksualnych człowieka, identyfikacji z płcią oraz tożsamości seksualnych. Kluczowe dla tego podejścia jest założenie, że zdrowie seksualne jest czymś więcej niż unikaniem niechcianych konsekwencji dla danej osoby.

W ostatnich latach pojawia się coraz więcej doniesień świadczących o skuteczności stosowania terapii poznawczo-behawioralnej w leczeniu zaburzeń seksualnych. Nacisk jest rozłożony na elementy restrukturyzacji poznawczej oraz pracy na emocjach, jednakże zbyt mało doniesień porusza rolę postawy psychoterapeuty dla oceny skuteczności leczenia.
Rozważenia wymaga nowowprowadzone rozróżnienie pomiędzy parafiliami a zaburzeniami parafilicznymi w ostatniej edycji klasyfikacji zaburzeń DSM. Zgodnie z najnowszymi wytycznymi nie wszystkie parafilie są zaburzeniami, a raczej różnicami indywidualnymi w zakresie seksualności, które występują częściej niż wcześniej sądzono. Stanowisko to wydaje się być zgodne z założeniami seksualności człowieka w perspektywie psychologii pozytywnej.
Autorzy wskazują na zalety wykorzystywania elementów psychoterapii humanistycznej w przypadku leczenia sprawców przestępstw seksualnych. Wskazuje się, że odpowiednie korzyści z leczenia uzyskują terapeuci, którzy podczas terapii są w stosunku do klienta empatyczni i nieoceniający.
Konieczne jest podkreślenie ograniczeń podejścia humanistycznego do badania seksualności człowieka. Ze względu na to, że nie jest to podejście dominujące, ilość publikacji naukowych na ten temat jest znacznie mniejsza od liczby publikacji z zakresu psychopatologii funkcji seksualnych.

ABSTRACT: Paraphilic disorders (PAs) and sexual preoccupation are known risk factors for recidivism in sexual offenders. Nonparaphilic sexual excessive behaviors—so-called paraphilia-related disorders (PRDs), like paraphilias, are also characterized by sexual preoccupation and volitional impairment and can be diagnosed in paraphilic men. The prevalence and clinical significance of PRDs in sexual homicide perpetrators, however, is unknown. We investigated the relationship between PAs and PRDs retrospectively in a sample of 161 sexual murderers. Four groups were compared: men without a PA or a PRD diagnosis, men with at least one PRD but no PA, men with at least one PA but no PRD, and finally, those with a combination of both (PA+PRD). The PA+PRD group had the most lifetime cumulative sexual impulsivity disorders, more developmental problems, the highest persistent frequency of sexual activity, the highest number of previous sexual offences, more sexual sadism, and compulsive masturbation. Men of the PRD subsample had suffered more from childhood sexual abuse, showed more promiscuity, psychopathy, and alcohol problems. The use of the PRD concept in this special offender group should be further investigated with prospectively designed studies.

Zaburzenie pedofilne definiuje się jako rodzaj zaburzenia parafilicznego polegającego na wykazywaniu pobudzenia seksualnego w wyniku kontaktu z dziećmi. Diagnoza pedofilnych preferencji seksualnych jest szczególnie istotna w perspektywie seksuologii sądowej, gdzie przy opiniowaniu sądowo-seksuologicznym ważne jest dobranie narzędzi pod kątem ewentualnej symulacji osoby badanej. W ostatnim czasie uwagę badaczy zwracają procedury poznawcze, które mogą dostarczyć obiektywnych wyników świadczących o występowaniu preferencji pedofilnych.

Celem wystąpienia jest prezentacja procedur poznawczych oraz narzędzi neuropsychologicznych w diagnozie preferencji pedofilnych, również w kontekście ich ograniczeń metodologicznych.

Osoby wykazujące pedofilne preferencje w zadaniach neuropsychologicznych bazujących na funkcjonowaniu kontroli poznawczej popełniają istotne błędy. Do wspomnianych zadań można zaliczyć Tower of London oraz Wisconsin Card Sorting Test. Badania ponadto wskazują na występowanie pewnych różnic w wynikach wspomnianych narzędzi pomiędzy osobami, które wykorzystywały seksualnie dzieci przy braku preferencji parafilicznych oraz osobami, które wykorzystywały seksualnie dzieci przy posiadaniu preferencji parafilicznych.

Do podobnego nurtu badań zaliczyć można zadania poznawcze bazujące na czasie udzielania odpowiedzi. Zadania te bazują na założeniu, że prezentacja zdjęć zawierających materiał pobudzający seksualnie dla osoby badanej sprawia, że potrzebuje ona więcej czasu na dokonanie odpowiedniej decyzji poznawczej. Do tego typu zadań zaliczyć można zadanie Stroopa w warunku emocjonalnym.

Zadania poznawcze wydają się być obiecującym kierunkiem rozwoju diagnostyki preferencji seksualnych. Należy jednak podkreślić, że wymagane jest opracowanie normalizacji oraz dokonanie odpowiedniej standaryzacji zanim procedury te będą mogły stać się narzędziami użytecznymi w diagnozie klinicznej.

The current study set out to investigate the structure, determinants, and relationship between lay theories of the etiology and efficacy of "cures" for four types of paraphilia: fetishism, pedophilia, sexual sadism, and voyeurism. One hundred and five participants completed a four-part questionnaire, which was divided into (a) demographic details, (b) perceptions of the etiology, (c) ratings of cure for each paraphilia, and (d) the Eysenck Personality Questionnaire. Previous studies of lay theories have demonstrated a clear and interpretable factor structure similar to that of explicit academic theories, as well as a clear and logical relationship between perceived etiology and cure. A similar structure was expected to emerge in this study, together with positive correlations between the various factors and personality type. A factor analysis revealed a clear and logical factor structure for etiology and cure items. Further, etiology and cure factors correlated strongly with each other but only moderately with demographic details and personality differences. These findings are discussed in relation to growing literature in the field.

A portrait is presented of an impulsive, violent and paranoid young murderer. A review of the psychiatric literature for indicators which address themselves to predicting murderous behavior yields a broad spectrum of theories and observations. The portrait presented includes a composite of many of the indicators which the various authors have described. The patient presented is felt to represent a discernable stereotype, and the predisposing factors which are viewed as contributiing to his murderous behavior are offered and given priorities.

The authors review 122 cases (88 from the world literature and 34 unpublished cases) manifesting necrophilic acts or fantasies. They distinguish genuine necrophilia from pseudonecrophilia and classify true necrophilia into three types: necrophilic homicide, "regular" necrophilia, and necrophilic fantasy. Neither psychosis, mental retardation, nor sadism appears to be inherent in necrophilia. The most common motive for necrophilia is possession of an unresisting and unrejecting partner. Necrophiles often choose occupations that put them in contact with corpses. Some necrophiles who had occupational access to corpses committed homicide nevertheless. Psychodynamic themes, defense mechanisms, and treatment for this rare disorder are discussed.

This article gives an overview of current pharmacological treatment of paraphilias and sex offenders focusing on the situation in Germany. Information about selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI) is followed by data about established antihormonal substances (cyproterone acetate/CPA, and medroxyprogesterone acetate/MPA), as well as a more detailed account on luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone agonists (LHRH agonists). The results of open, uncontrolled clinical studies with SSRIs (n = 16) and LHRH agonists (n = 11) in paraphilic outpatients confirm the positive effects of these substances. A survey about the use of CPA and LHRH agonists in forensic hospitals in Germany shows that half of the patients treated with any kind of (anti-) hormonal agents received an LHRH agonist. The authors present a protocol on side effects, contraindications, and monitoring of CPA and LHRH agonists and develop an algorithm for differential pharmacotherapy of paraphilias.

While the incidence of criminal offense in individuals with schizophrenia does not necessarily differ from that of the normal population, in contrast, the rate of sexual crimes among individuals with schizophrenia is relatively low. Due to low numbers, description of sexual criminal behavior among schizophrenia patients remains relatively unexplored. In order to investigate clinical, socio-demographic and sexual factors associated with deviant sexual behavior in schizophrenia sex offenders we retrospectively compared a large subgroup of schizophrenia sex offenders with a group of schizophrenia patients incarcerated for other criminal behaviors and a group of sex offenders without schizophrenia. Results indicated significant differences distinguishing schizophrenia sex offenders from schizophrenia non-sex offenders, the former of whom were more likely to be married, employed, non-heterosexual (homosexual and bisexual orientations) and demonstrated less hospitalization, antisocial personality, substance abuse, negative symptoms and overall illness severity. Individuals with schizophrenia had a tendency towards female victims compared to nonschizophrenia sex offenders whose victims tended to be male. Study observations indicate important differences between the 3 subgroups suggesting that the schizophrenia sex offender subpopulation may be a unique subgroup of comorbid conditions.

A number of men have extreme castration ideations. Many only fantasize about castration; others actualize their fantasies. Aims. We wish to identify factors that distinguish those who merely fantasize about being castrated from those who are at the greatest risk of genital mutilation. Methods. Seven hundred thirty-one individuals, who were not castrated, responded to a survey posted on www. eunuch.org. We compared the responses of these "wannabes" to those of 92 men who were voluntarily castrated and responded to a companion survey. Main Outcome Measures. Respondents answered the questionnaire items relating to demographics, origin of interest in castration, and ambition toward eunuchdom. Results. Two categories of wannabes emerged. A large proportion (~40%) of wannabes' interest in castration was singularly of a fetishistic nature, and these men appeared to be at a relatively low risk of irreversible genital mutilation. Approximately 20% of the men, however, appeared to be at great risk of genital mutilation. They showed a greater desire to reduce libido, change their genital appearance, transition out of male, and prevent sexually offensive behavior. Nineteen percent of all wannabes have attempted self-castration, yet only 10% have sought medical assistance. Conclusions. We identify several motivating factors for extreme castration ideations and provide a classification for reasons why some males desire orchiectomies. Castration ideations fall under several categories of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 4th Ed. (DSM-IV), most notably a Gender Identity Disorder other than male-to-female (MtF) transsexual (i.e., male-to-eunuch) and a Body Identity Integrity Disorder. Seven hundred thirty-one individuals, who were not castrated, responded to a survey posted on www. eunuch.org. We compared the responses of these "wannabes" to those of 92 men who were voluntarily castrated and responded to a companion survey. Main Outcome Measures. Respondents answered the questionnaire items relating to demographics, origin of interest in castration, and ambition toward eunuchdom. Results. Two categories of wannabes emerged. A large proportion (~40%) of wannabes' interest in castration was singularly of a fetishistic nature, and these men appeared to be at a relatively low risk of irreversible genital mutilation. Approximately 20% of the men, however, appeared to be at great risk of genital mutilation. They showed a greater desire to reduce libido, change their genital appearance, transition out of male, and prevent sexually offensive behavior. Nineteen percent of all wannabes have attempted self-castration, yet only 10% have sought medical assistance. Conclusions. We identify several motivating factors for extreme castration ideations and provide a classification for reasons why some males desire orchiectomies. Castration ideations fall under several categories of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 4th Ed. (DSM-IV), most notably a Gender Identity Disorder other than male-to-female (MtF) transsexual (i.e., male-to-eunuch) and a Body Identity Integrity Disorder. This study tested the hypothesis that all gender-dysphoric males who are not sexually aroused by men (homosexual) are instead sexually aroused by the thought or image of themselves as women (autogynephilic). Subjects were 212 adult male-to-female transsexuals. These were divided into four groups; one homosexual and three nonhomosexual. The three nonhomosexual groups were heterosexual, bisexual, and analloerotic (unattracted to male or female partners, but not necessarily devoid of all erotic behavior). A Core Autogynephilia Scale was developed to assess a subject's propensity to be sexually aroused by the fantasy of being a woman. The four transsexual groups were compared on this measure (and on several others), using Newman-Keuls multiple-range tests at p less than .05. As predicted, all three nonhomosexual groups were more likely than the homosexual group to report sexual stimulation by cross-gender fantasy. This finding supports the hypothesis that the major types of nonhomosexual gender dysphoria constitute variant forms of one underlying disorder, which may be characterized as autogynephilic gender dysphoria.

This article presents a study of 114 self-defined zoophile men who were researched primarily through the use of an on-line questionnaire. We describe how the participants acquired the identity label of zoophile, what it meant to them, and their relationships among themselves. Also examined are how they eroticized animals and how human and feral characteristics combined to form this object choice. Finally, participants' sexual profiles with animals and humans, and how the balance of animal and human desires creates different forms of zoophilia, are described.

Body integrity identity disorder (BIID), formerly also known as apotemnophilia, is characterized by a desire for amputation of a healthy limb and is claimed to straddle or to even blur the boundary between psychiatry and neurology. The neurological line of approach, however, is a recent one, and is accompanied or preceded by psychodynamical, behavioural, philosophical, and psychiatric approaches and hypotheses. Next to its confusing history in which the disorder itself has no fixed identity and could not be classified under a specific discipline, its sexual component has been an issue of unclarity and controversy, and its assessment a criterion for distinguishing BIID from apotemnophilia, a paraphilia. Scholars referring to the lived body—a phenomenon primarily discussed in the phenomenological tradition in philosophy—seem willing to exclude the sexual component as inessential, whereas other authors notice important similarities with gender identity disorder or transsexualism, and thus precisely focus attention on the sexual component. This contribution outlines the history of BIID highlighting the vicissitudes of its sexual component, and questions the justification for distinguishing BIID from apotemnophilia and thus for omitting the sexual component as essential. Second, we explain a hardly discussed concept from Maurice Merleau-Ponty’s "Phenomenology of Perception" (1945a), the sexual schema, and investigate how the sexual schema could function in interaction with the body image in an interpretation of BIID which starts from the lived body while giving the sexual component its due.

This review attempts to assemble the characteristics of a distinct variant of sleepwalking called sexsomnia/sleepsex from the seemingly scarce literature into a coherent theoretical framework. Common features of sexsomnia include sexual arousal with autonomic activation (e.g. nocturnal erection, vaginal lubrication, nocturnal emission, dream orgasms). Somnambulistic sexual behavior and its clinical implications, the role of precipitating factors, diagnostic, treatment, and medico-legal issues are also reviewed. The characteristics of several individuals described in literature including their family/personal history of parasomnia as well as the abnormal behaviors occurring during sleep are reported.

Celem artykułu jest ukazanie problematyki oraz specyfiki pracy biegłego psychologa-seksuologa w kontekście opiniowania sądowo-seksuologicznego, odpowiedzialności zawodowej oraz trudności diagnostycznych wynikających z niedoboru standaryzowanych narzędzi. Z uwagi na konsekwencje wydania określonej opinii, wskazano na odpowiedzialność jaka ciąży na biegłych sądowych opiniujących w sprawach karnych dotyczących przestępstw przeciwko wolności seksualnej. Due to new legal norms introduced in the recent years, psychology and sexology expert witnesses have become an important element of criminal sexual conduct cases. The aim of this article is to present the characteristics of the job of a psychology and sexology expert witness in the context of court opinions, professional responsibility, and diagnostic difficulties that result from the lack of standardized tools. Due to the consequences of the opinions given by a psychology and sexology expert witness, it should be underlines that the experts should be well-educated and aware of the importance of their judgment, especially in case of crimes against sexual freedom.

This article renders the results of research that investigated personality disorders in a sample of paraphilic and nonparaphilic child molesters. The sample contained 36 paraphilic child molesters and a matched comparison group of 34 nonparaphilic child molesters. The analyses of the research results show that four personality disorders discriminate between both groups. Only the obsessive-compulsive personality disorder contributes significantly to the explanation of paraphilic child molestation. This result also contributes to the development and differentiation of the treatment of paraphilia-related disorders. For several child molesters, psychological approaches to the treatment of sexual offending (e.g., cognitive-behavioral treatment, psychotherapy in general) are limited and cannot be expected to immediately reduce risk. Interest has been expressed in medical approaches to reduce recidivism, in combination with psychotherapy.

This paper reviewed different aspects of the assessment of paraphilic disorder, which is formerly known as paraphilia in DSM-IV-TR, including the diagnostic criteria, conceptualization, cultural factors, legal and ethical concerns, and current research and future study directions.
