WALE AND KNOWN AS WALES HORSELATER RENAMED FIRST REGIMENT OF SIKH IRREGULAR CAVALRY (WALES HORSE)—CAPTAIN WALES WAS COMMISSIONED IN ENGLISH EAST INDIA COMPANYS ARMY IN 1840 IN 48TH NATIVE INFANTRY –WALES WAS FROM A TRADITIONAL MILITARY FAMILY FATHERED BY GENERAL SIR CHARLES WALES (HM 88 AND 33RD FOOT) –HIS 8TH CHILD OUT OF A TOTAL OF 16 CHILDREN- HE WAS PURSUING THE REBELS FROM MUSA BAGH TOWARDS FAIZABAD WHEN HE WAS SHOT THROUGH THE HEAD AND KILLED BY A SINGLE MUSKET SHOT- HE WAS BURIED AT MUSA BAGH LUCKNOW AND SOMEHOW HIS GRAVE BECAME A LOCAL SHRINE- MY GRANDFATHERS ELDER BROTHER WHILE SERVING AS SUPERINTENDENT OF POLICE AT LUCKNOW IN 1944 RECOLLECTED IN 1980 THAT HIS GRAVE WAS KNOWN AS GORA BHAGWAN OR GORA SAHIBS QABAR AND QUITE A LOCAL SENSATION AT THAT TIME-INTERESTINGLY AGHA ABDUL RAUF ALSO FATHERED A FUTURE MAJOR GENERAL OF PAKISTAN ARMY (AGHA MANZOOR RAUF-8TH PMA LONG COURSE) FROM HIS SECOND WIFE.– WALES WAS SUCCEEDED BY CAPTAIN JONES AND THE REGIMENT TOOK PART IN CHINA WAR IN 1860 WHEN IT WAS COMMANDED BY COLONEL PROBYN (WHO WON A VC AT LUCKNOW WHILE SERVING IN 2ND PUNJAB CAVALRY) -FROM MAY 1860- ORIGINALLY FROM THE COMPANYS 6TH BENGAL LIGHT CAVALRY-THE REGIMENT WAS RAISED TO REGULAR STATUS IN 1861 AND NUMBERED 11TH BENGAL CAVALRY- NOTE THAT IT WAS RAISED BY PUNJAB GOVERNMENT AND ONLY TRANSFERRED TO THE ARMY IN 1858-IN 1864 NUMBERED 11TH BENGAL CAVALRY (LANCERS)--- IN 1874 11TH BENGAL LANCERS—IN 1876 11TH PRINCE OF WALES OWN BENGAL LANCERS- IN 1903 11TH PRINCE OF WALES LANCERS—. IN 1904 11TH PRINCE OF WALES LANCERS (PROBYNS HORSE)– IN 1906 11TH KING EDWARDS OWN (PROBYNS HORSE) SERVED IN CHINA AT PEKING AND TAKU FORTS IN 1860-SECOND AFGHAN WAR- BLACK MOUNTAIN EXPEDITION – MALAKAND AND CHITRAL AND TOOK PART IN WW ONE IN MESOPOTAMIA IN 1917-1918-ONE OF ITS OFFICERS WAS KILLED AT GALLIPOLI – IN 1921 AMALMAGATED WITH 12TH CAVALRY TO FORM FIFTH KING EDWARDS OWN LANCERS,PROBYNS HORSE-LATER KNOWN AS PROBYNS HORSE (5TH KING EDWARD VIIs OWN LANCERS)- SERVED IN BURMA IN SECOND WORLD WAR WHERE ITS LATER BRIGADIER RIAZ UL KARIM ALSO FROM LUCKNOW WHERE THE OFFICER WHO RAISED IT WAS KILLED IN ACTION- WON A MILITARY CROSS -NOW PART OF PAKISTAN ARMY
