Environment and current situation or thought a man finds himself at any time affect his psyche. The ancient Greeks associate psyche with Eros and both form the allegory of life. As love combines psyche and Eros, it links Oedipus complex and Electra complex to some forms of love such as ludus, mania or storge. The manifestation of this complex in Sons and Lovers is observed under the lens of psychoanalytic theory to pinpoint illustrations of desire for sexual involvement with any parent of opposite sex. The current research aims at enlightening the dangerous drawbacks linked to such a relationship between son and his mother. It is observed that the Oedipus complex qualifies Paul's relationships with his mother and with other women mainly, Miriam and Clara. The Freudian theory and psychoanalytic theory will be used to analyze the issue on the protagonist Paul as well as on his mother Gertrude in Son and Lovers and other novels by DH Lawrence.
Sigmund Freud and his Oedipus complex are among the most often discussed critical and contentious issues of modern psychology and literature. Freud has brought lot of controversies in the field of modern psychology and literary trend through his theory Oedipus complex. Contrariwise, in some other assessor's notions his concept of Oedipus complex deserves a great deal of appreciation. Nonetheless, prominent English novelist D.H. Lawrence is one of those modern writers who are greatly influenced by Freudian theories and have been promoting Freud's notions through their works. His "sons and lovers" are considered as one of the most modern as well as controversial novels of the twentieth century. In this fiction, the protagonist Paul's extremely emotional dealings with his mother are the illustration of Doctor Freud's psychological theory Oedipus complex. Nevertheless, this paper aims to critically analyze the facts lying with the hallucination of Oedipus complex as it is presented in "Sons and Lovers". The evaluation is conducted liberally and objectively as well as through comparisons between the central characters of Lawrence's "Sons and Lovers" and Sophocles' King Oedipus. This attempt also tends to judge the universality of Freud's claim particularly sexual theory with the help of modern biological experiments and the result of relevant laboratory tests, conducted by eminent psychologists and psychiatrists. In short, the critique ultimately endeavors to find out a factual solution for the controversies, raised by Oedipus complex, with the help of logic, fact and scientific researches.

This article endeavors to come up with the novel Sons and Lovers with the view of Oedipus complex which turned out at the time when D.H. Lawrence set off to rejuvenate the new generation writers along with the readers throughout his novel to be familiar with the neo type of complication which is related to Freudian Theory of Psychosexual Development or Organic evolution. Following the footprint of Sophocles, Lawrence depicts his neo form of complexity in accordance with the philosophy of psychoanalysis but in different way that is in reality the influential work Oedipus Rex (Oedipus Tyrannus). The enduring psychological pressure and anxiety always leg-pulls the mind of the protagonist Paul Morel and makes him anesthetized in absence of both his mother and beloved. It is Lawrence's first full-fledged novel where he portrays his uneasiness overshadowing his romances with two women. This complication is the root of all problems that actually imposed on the Protagonist to love his mother with all the intensity of his soul. Furthermore, there develops an unnatural bond of interdependence between Paul and his mother which leads to further complications in his emotional life.

The 20 th century literature was greatly influenced by Feminist theories and psychological models of sexuality. This involves works like Sons and Lovers by D.H. Lawrence which were completely centered on psychoanalytic fiction. In fact, Lawrence is one of the modern authors who included Freudian theories in his work. Such theories have made it possible to understand the varying behavior patterns in males and females. This broadens one's concepts about the structures of femininity and masculinity. This research paper intends to study the Oedipus complex as presented in D. H. Lawrence's Sons and Lovers. At the end, you will be able to understand the psychology of the two main male characters of the novel, William and Paul and what made them take certain weird decisions.

In the beginning of 20th century the prose fiction writers and dramatists were highly influenced by Sigmund Freud’s (1913) psycho-analysis theory ‘Oedipus complex’ that explains the child’s sexual desire or fixation with the parent of the opposite sex and the competition with the parent of same sex. D. H. Lawrence, a modern English literary writer and Sadaat Hasan Manto, the prose fiction writer of Urdu language, are bonded together on one plinth of literary art by employing Oedipus complex. This article critically analyses, compares and contrasts the use of theory of Oedipus complex in the short stories ‘The rocking horse winner’ of Lawrence and ‘Dhuha’ of Manto. This is probably the first research in Pakistan that is going to discuss a socially prohibited topic like Oedipus complex in a comparative study in the writings from East and West.

The Oedipus complex represents a key concept of psychoanalytic theory and is one of Freud’s most significant ideas. It constitutes a basic conflict in all humans’ psyche and it defines the structure of individual’s sexual identity. Despite Freud fully recognizing its crucial role in the organization of mental life, he never dedicated to it an entire writing. The Oedipus complex was, in fact, developed in multiple steps and its development cannot be disentangled from events in Freud’s personal and professional life. The aim of this paper is to describe the development of Freud’s concept of the Oedipus complex throughout his writings. Objectives of the study were, first, to provide a description of the theoretical mechanisms and, second, to focus on the Oedipus complex on three of Freud’s clinical cases: Dora, Little Hans and the Wolf-Man.
This paper aims to investigate D. H. Lawrence’s “The Rocking-Horse Winner” within Freud’s psychoanalytic framework. This essay begins with an overview of theoretical implications, that is, psychoanalytic theory of Oedipus complex, and, then, discusses the reason why this story lends itself to the Freudian psychoanalytic reading. Next, a summary of Lawrence’s “The Rocking-Horse Winner” will be given as ancillary to facilitate the final analysis with regards to the details of the story. Ultimately, the paper moves to apply a psychoanalytical reading to the story. Paul, the protagonist of the story, is clearly experiencing and suffering from repressed obsessions which gradually change the whole dynamism between a child and parents. In the end, the traces of Oedipus complex within Lawrence’s “The Rocking-Horse Winner” are discovered. Keywords: Oedipus complex, Psychoanalysis, Distress, Sexual, Repression, Rocking-Horse, Castration.

This paper recovers the notion of the sacrifice of sexuality as the central, tragic, element of the oedipal structure. This notion has been largely abandoned in the psychoanalytic literature that has tended to reduce the oedipal structure to processes of exclusion. The paper traces the development of the theoretical and clinical transformations of Freud 's ideas on the role of the father and suggests that they allow us to more fully comprehend the Oedipus complex proposed by Freud. A paradox is explored: the killing of the father is, in Freud 's view, the requirement for the creation of the social order which, from then on, prohibits all killings. The father, however, has to be killed metaphorically only, as the actual exclusion of the father lies at the origin of so many psychopathologies from violence to the psychoses and perversions. The paper analyses the fundamental asymmetry that is present in the Oedipal structure and suggests that the three elements of the oedipal triangle constitute the law (of the dead father, that institutes the sacrifice of sexuality), desire (for the lost object) and identification (with both father and mother). Two clinical examples are discussed. In the first, one can identify a perverse structure in which the father has been murdered; in the second, there is a progressive construction of the dead (symbolic) father in the analytic process.

ABSTRACT The coupling between the hydrogen atoms transfer and the base pair opening processes in the adenine–thymine system have been studied with a quantum-dynamics theoretical approach in a four-dimensional model. The modifications induced by the explicit inclusion of the out-of-plane hydrogen atom position in the two bridges have been evidenced and the consequences on the biological properties suggested.
