This article explores the relationship between the dimensions of the Earth and the ancient metrological systems, specifically focusing on the Great Pyramid of Giza. The hypothesis suggests that the equatorial circumference of the Earth, measured in miles, inches, and other units, is intricately linked to ancient concepts like the squaring of the circle, a geometric problem with both practical and philosophical implications. By examining the Earth's equatorial circumference and comparing it to significant time periods from Hindu cosmology, such as the yuga, the article reveals striking numerical coincidences between distances on Earth and cosmic cycles. Furthermore, the Great Pyramid’s dimensions, such as the socket sides and the encompassing rectangle, are shown to align closely with solar and lunar cycles when expressed in inches. These measurements suggest a sophisticated system where inches represent days and cosmological events are reflected in architectural structures. This analysis delves into how ancient civilisations employed these units to express the inexpressible, the squaring of the circle, both in metrology and symbolic geometry, to connect the finite, material world with the infinite realm of ideal forms. The article concludes by highlighting the paradox of approximating irrational constants like π in physical constructions while simultaneously striving for the perfection of ideal geometry. This ancient system of measurement, deeply rooted in both practical and symbolic mathematics, reconciles the finite and the infinite, suggesting that the Great Pyramid, the mile, and other ancient units of measure are not just practical tools but also embodiments of a profound philosophical worldview.

About three months after its hardback publication, my book, “The Christian-Islamic Vision of Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror: Engenderings of Ecumenical Romanity”, is now published in paperback. Seen from the perspective of Ecumenical Romanity, the book deals with the reign of the restorer of Roman Constantinople/Konstantiniyye at both the micro-reign level as well as the general perspective of Roman religiopolitical history (‘Byzantine’, Anatolian Seljuk, and Ottoman). As far as the former is concerned, it investigates Sultan Caesar Basileus Mehmed I’s biological-religious-political relations to the Pontic Great Comnenian Empire of Trebizond, to Christianity (Orthodox), his conscious efforts to create a Roman Christian-Islamic Ecumene as a continuation of the ‘Byzantine’ Empire, his death by haemorrhage effected by a constipation-inducing theriac with the direct involvement of his elder son, Prince Bayezid II in collaboration which with a certain formerly Catholic and pro-Venetian Ottoman Paşa, the covert-action-state par excellence, Venice and his former Jewish doctor and Venetian agent, Jacobo/Yakub, a death centred particularly upon the issue of “Romanness”, his funeral proceedings according to Roman Christian-Islamic customs and his burial at an Islamic Mosque yet among Roman Christian Orthodox Saints, Emperors, and Patriarchs since its catacomb sections belonged to the Apostoleion, the Holy Apostles Cathedral and Mausoleum, originally built by the Roman Saint and Emperor, Constantine the Great. The book contains several unique photographs of remnants - now reburied - of that Cathedral. As far as the latter is concerned, the book provides glimpses for the introduction of a perspective of ‘Byzantine’-Anatolian-Seljuk-Ottoman religiopolitical history based in the following periodization: Full Official and Popular Romanity: Orthodox Christian-vahdet-i vücud Islamic ‘Byzantine’-Anatolian Seljuk – Ottoman Inter-encapsulation reaching its apex in the reign of Sultan Basileus Mehmed I the Conqueror; Romanity Limping: from 1481AD till about 1750 AD, where official and popular vahdet-i vücud Islam remains yet partially challenged by pre-modern fundamentalist Islamic trends (usually Ibn Taymiyya-related), the Orthodox Christian element somewhat retreating (up to a point, at least, legally) and sporadic Jewish ascendancy; Clear and Present De-Romanisation: from 1750 AD until 1922 AD where cornerstone of Roman Ottomanness, i.e., vahdet-i vücud Islam is officially challenged and persecuted even at the popular level together with Orthodox Christianity by way of Westernism (including the Russian pseudo-Orthodox Christianity after Peter the Great as well as the anti-Roman modern Western/Frankish-Philhellenism (of anti-Christian Gnostic spiritual origins)) and its concomitant Arabo-Persian-Indian Islamism (with the Indian/Pakistani-originated genesis of Ottoman Islamism), systematic Western-prompted monophysite Armenian ascendancy against the Roman Greek Orthodox element, Roman Turkish and Greek reaction (the 1821 Greek Revolution, the New Ottomans, the Young Turks); Roman Restoration in Modernity: The Atatürkist Turkish Republic (1922-1938) (see in detail, my other book, The Glory of the 'Byzantine'-Ottoman Continuum: Romanity, God's Neighbourhood on Earth). https://www.cambridgescholars.com/product/978-1-0364-0670-7

This book comprises two primary objectives. First, it seeks to curate an extensive exhibition showcasing diverse African art forms sourced from public museums and private collections in the United States and Europe. The exhibition, featuring about 300 works of art from different countries in Sub-saharan Africa, focuses mainly on the sculptural tradition of Africa. However, a few other works, such as textiles, were featured in the publication supporting the landmark exhibition. Divided into eight thematic sections, the essays by seven authors advocate for an aesthetic appreciation of the arts of Africa based on concepts, criteria and vocabularies of the cultures who made them. The book adopted a contextual or anthropological approach to present cultural case studies and analyse thematic examples from sub-Saharan Africa. The final pages of the book acknowledged pioneers, the ‘fieldwork generations’ who paved the way for the scholarly study of African arts and laid the foundation for analyses of African aesthetics from African perspectives from the 1930s to the present.
Economic mineral resources lying in the earth are necessary ingredients of all our modern conveniences. Its mining yields huge profits for the companies that own them, a source of revenue for the government, and provides employment to a large number of people. Nevertheless, getting at them comes at a price on the environment with externalities such as pollution, erosion, destruction of natural ecosystem etc. Mining affects all the components of environment and the impacts are permanent/temporary, beneficial/harmful, repairable/irreparable, but irreversible
The Spanish experience with regional governments and governance illustrates well the development of subnational actors and institutions responding to complex drivers and motivations. It shows how subnational forces, based on identity, geography, economy, democratic and ethnoterritorial demands, can reshape the role and scope of traditional nation-states. This chapter describes and appraises the functioning and achievements of Spanish regional governments and governance institutions and dynamics by reviewing the recent research on the issue and focusing on the regional level of government. It discusses how regional governance - functions, structures, processes and outcomes - has evolved in Spain, and its consequences for the political system, intergovernmental relations, and policy making. It starts with the configuration of regional democracies and governments, then looks at subnational governance configuration and problems, and ends with some discussion of the outcomes of regional governance in terms of economic performance and social and territorial cohesion.
