COMPANY PROFILE Over the years AEON CO. (M) BHD has established itself as one of the leading retailer in Malaysia with a total revenue of RM3.51 billion for the financial year under review. It was formerly known as Jaya Jusco. This company was started on 15 September 1984. AEON CO. (M) BHD. (AEON or the Company) was set up in response to the Malaysian Government’s invitation to AEON Japan to help to modernize the retailing industries in Malaysia. It was believed that the modernization of the retail industry was crucial for the country's economic growth. Prior to this, in 1983 Dr. Mahathir visited Tokyo and met the then AEON Co., Ltd. President, Mr. Takuya Okada to discuss the proposition of bringing the AEON’s name to Malaysia. The talks ended on a positive note and Dr. Mahathir invited AEON to set up store in Malaysia. All this was part of Dr. Mahathir's Look East policy for Malaysia. .The name “AEON” is well established between foreigners and Malaysians. This is especially due to its association with the international AEON Group of Companies and it has managed to establish itself as a leading chain of General Merchandise Stores (GMS) and supermarkets. The Company’s performance has been further enhanced by the management’s acute understanding of target market needs and the provision of an optimal product mix. AEON constantly tries to meet the changing needs and demands of the customers. This has proven by its tremendous success that it has achieved over the years. AEON’s stores are mostly situated in suburban residential areas to cater Malaysia’s vast middle income group. AEON is also active in specialty store operations, shopping center development and operations, credit card business and services. The AEON Group of Companies is an integrated Japanese retailer and is active not only in Japan but also throughout ASIAN and China with more than 250 outlets worldwide. It has affluent companies such as AEON Co., Ltd. under AEON Group of Companies. In every market, AEON’s activities are guided by its unchanging ‘Customer First’ philosophy at all times. AEON's aim was to grow with the people of Malaysia through the transfer of expertise from Japan to Malaysia and human resource development, two factors which would contribute greatly to the progress of Malaysia and to surpass expectations by combining excellent products with unique personal services that enhance the shopping experience to make customers smile every time they shop. SWOT ANALYSIS STRENGTH AEON has pricing power, customers will continue using the AEON products. Low cost leader can undercut rivals in price. Variety of choice can contribute to customer loyalty. It is a good brand and well known, easier for people to recognize. WEAKNESS AEON has less space or less capacity to store their product. The management in AEON is not strong. The lack of customer service OPPORTUNITIES The online market offers AEON the ability to expand their business. Through capture new marker, AEON can diverse their portfolio and services. By going global, AEON has new opportunities. THREATS AEON has to compete with other hypermarkets. Competition offers similar product range.
