Using a qualitative methodological approach, this chapter brings to bear a theoretical and conceptual framework with particular consideration to the notions of innovation, journalistic convergence, design and the theory of affordances, as well as mobile communication and mobile journalism. This analysis covers the period 2010-2014 and seeks to examine the specific affordances, the structure, organization and types of narratives produced; the design and use of multimedia features as well as the level of integration with other products in the same news organization. The empirical corpus consists of products selected for their representativeness within a broader sample: O Globo a Mais, Estadão Noite, and Diário do Nordeste Plus (Brazil), La Repubblica Sera (Italy), La Presse+ (Canada) and El Mundo de la Tarde (Spain). The study concludes that - although timid - experimentation continues to prevail regarding formats, content, language and narratives based on the features of mobile devic...

Abstract The fast and global way which has characterized the presence of mobile phones in society has sparked the interest of several sectors of activity, including journalism. From the early stages of production to distribution, and then through the characteristics of content and consumption patterns, numerous changes have been introduced by these mobile devices in an activity that has been undergoing one of the most uncertain moments in its long history. This uncertainty has stemmed from the decrease in income which was caused by the emergence of new competitors, such as the online press and social networks. This bibliographic review aims at identifying the changes caused by smartphones in the production distribution and consumption of news, analyzing its effect on the epistemology of journalism. We attempt to ascertain if the increasing influence of mobile technologies in the journalistic activity has changed its nature, improving the production of knowledge. Upon closer reading of the bibliography, it can be concluded that the versatility of mobile devices has facilitated a set of new possibilities not only for journalists, namely more autonomy and a reduction in the time spent between the event and the publication, but also for consumers, who can do a mobile and personalized consumption on their screens. Due to its ability to continuously adapt to the rhythm of contemporary society, mobile journalism has become more universal and has been confirmed as a form of knowledge insofar as it responds more effectively to consumers' expectations, in particular young people's, who are moving away from journalism and thus prevent the generational renewal of readers, something which is fundamental for the media business model.

– This article was developed within the scope of the Erasmus+ PAgES project, and it aims to investigate mobile journalism (mojo) as a new digital journalism technique that is based upon three characteristics: agility, flexibility, and accessibility. The proposed hypotheses are that mobile journalists can produce news content quickly and also include a greater variety of formats. In addition, access to remote locations and characters for interviews has been facilitated. Exploratory research tested these hypotheses using a mixed-method approach: an online survey (53 responses), to assess the degree of agreement/disagreement of the mobile journalists themselves regarding the hypotheses; and four interviews with experts to understand their perceptions of this new approach to journalism. The result of the research was favorable to the hypotheses and confirmed the process of individualization in journalism. It also ratified mojo as a journalistic technique suited to the demands of the 21s...
Mobile communication studies have expanded from within various disciplinary areas (in sociology, communication, cyberculture and cultural studies, for example), instigated by they way that practices arising from the emergence of new digital mobile technologies1 and wireless connections2 give rise to new communications phenomena. These phenomena generate real research problems with questions that need to be addressed in order to identify and understand the economic and socio-cultural implications of mobile technologies for contemporary life.
ABSTRACT This article is centred on a study of the empirical and theoretical-conceptual nature of autochthonous (original) products for tablets, with a horizontal multiplatform logic, integrating the web, tablets, smartphones and PDF and page flip versions of printed editions in a dynamic, multimedia continuum launched as part of journalistic organizations’ strategies in compliance with journalistic convergence processes. The methodology includes a qualitative, empirical analysis of actual products (O Globo a Mais, Estadão Noite and Folha10) conducted in an ad hoc exploratory manner, associated to semi-structured interviews with editors and reporters. The results indicate changes to the profile of the professionals involved with production strategies for tablets, inserting new elements in autochthonous product narratives. A 3.0 transposition was simultaneously identified, as the exclusive content for tablet products is transferred to other platforms at a later date. Keywords: Journalistic convergence. Mobile journalism. Tablets. Autochthonous products. Journalists Statute.
