EnglishIn this article we study the presence of a Jewish community in Merida from the early second century ad until the seventeenth century, from epigraphic testimonies important biographical emeritenses Jews in the golden age of the Jews under Muslim rule; of taxes paid by the Jews to the Christian kings and of the proceedings of the Inquisition to Judaizing in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. The Jewish community of Merida isthe first of which there is a documentary knowledge in the Iberian Peninsula and, consequently, the most lasting Jewish settlement in Spain.
