This article deals with several topics of spatial analyses. One concerns the so-called sacred spaces in the northeastern Austrian La Tène cemeteries, while another is about the communication lines across the Leitha Mountains during the same period. Starting with a brief introduction to the theory of space and the appropriation of space, reference is also made to the collective memory of societies. Case studies for viewshade analysis are taken from the Central Alpine region, for example from the Ganglegg site in Vinschgau (Südtirol), Sanzeno (Trentino) or Lake Garda (Trentino/Lombardy). This raises the question of how prehistoric societies of the Bronze and Iron Ages dealt with certain phenomena of visibility of space and expanse, and how such impressions influenced the mental process of spatial appropriation.
