This is a numerical or numerological analysis of the GLGL Wheel mandala that I conducted in 2013. It shows the major numerological patterns that exist within the Wheel. These patterns are based on the numerical values of the Hebrew letters that compose the GLGL Wheel.

[This research document is incomplete and still evolving.] The Jacob’s Wheel metaphysical system is based on a systematic arrangement of the Hebrew alphabet upon the large ‘wheel’ (Hebrew: GLGL, ‫ )גלגל‬mandala composed of twenty-two smaller wheel mandalas. The seven spokes of each mandala bear a unique group of three Hebrew letters. And because Hebrew letters are assigned a numerical value each spoke also yields a number that’s the sum of its three letters. When the individual spoke totals are reduced to their base numbers from one to nine interesting numerological patterns are revealed. These patterns provide a unique numerical key-signature for each mandala. No two mandalas have the same key-signature. The tables above provide information regarding the spokes of their associated mandalas. Each row shows the three Hebrew letters assigned to a spoke and includes the numerical total of its three letters. The reduced value of each total is also given (after the forward slash). So, for example, the Shin (‫ )ש‬mandala—that is the nucleus (or ‘Key Mandala’) of Jacob’s Wheel—has six spokes that reduce to the number three, and one spoke that reduces to seven. Therefore, its keysignature is 3/7. The other mandalas possess various combinations of two base numbers. No mandala has more than two base numbers. The movement of ‘numerological energy’ through the mandalas (i.e. as per the table below) appears to be from Tav to Alef. In other words, it’s a ‘cycle of return’ from the last letter to the first letter of the Hebrew alphabet. This cycle does not follow (or parallel) the spiralling mandala sequence of Jacob’s Wheel, but rather it follows the natural order of the alphabet and therefore represents an influence that’s based on the essential nature of the Hebrew letters themselves. The pure potency of the mandalas then wanes from Tav to Qof (6/1), but then increases again through Peh (4/9) and Ayin (1/6). (You can see the wave-form in column four of the table above.) The next phase of the cycle begins with the pure 7/0 energy of Sameck. It follows a similar pattern of unfoldment, waning and waxing, until it reaches Het (8/0) and the third phase of the cycle begins. The cycle completes when it reaches the pure 9/0 energy field of Alef. So, the initiating peaks within the full cycle are represented by the numbers 6/0, 7/0, 8/0, and 9/0 (i.e. Tav, Sameck, Het, and Alef). Each phase of the full cycle also follows a common pattern of unfoldment. Phase 1 starts with a peak of 6/0, descends to a trough of 6/1, and then ascends to a peak of 1/6. Phase 2 starts with a peak of 7/0, descends to a trough of 7/2, and then ascends to a peak of 2/7. Phase 2 starts with a peak of 8/0, descends to a trough of 8/3, and then ascends to a peak of 3/8. It appears therefore, that phase 1, after beginning with a surge of ‘six’ energy (6/0), proceeds to spawn ‘one’ energy (6/1) at its low point which then becomes the dominant energy (1/6) at the end of the phase. Similarly, phase 2 begins with a surge of ‘seven’ energy (7/0), then spawns ‘two’ energy (7/2) at its low point which then dominates (2/7) at the end of the phase. The third phase begins with a dominant surge of ‘eight’ energy (8/0). It then proceeds to generate ‘three’ energy (8/3) at its low point and this becomes the dominant energy at the end of the phase. The letters of each spoke are permuted to form several words as per the instructions of verse 2:4 of the Sefer Yetzirah. H-TO = The...1) stylus. 1a) iron stylus with diamond tip used to write on stone or metal. 1b) reed pen used on a roll. OTH = 1) to cover, enwrap, wrap oneself, envelop oneself. 1a) (Qal). 1a1) to wrap, envelop oneself. 1a2) to cover (the beard in mourning). 1a3) mourner, one who covers (participle). 1b) (Hiphil) to cover, enwrap, envelop. 2) to grasp. 2a) (Qal) to grasp. (M)OTH - ‘a wrap’, ‘a mantle’. Spoke 7 : YVN = 1) mire, mirer. YVN(H) - ‘pigeon’. YVN(Q) - ‘sucker’, ‘suckling’, ‘sapling’, ‘young plant’. The Hebrew word ShYN (i.e. the letter Shin spelled in full) appears on the 7th spoke when the centre letter of the mandala is included. It contains a Vav that converts the word into a Huph’al verb form. The word ShYN means ‘urine’ or ‘to urinate’, but its deeper meaning is ‘to eliminate impurities from the body’. Summary: The darkness (APL) that surrounds (MSB) and separates (GZR) us and causes us to stray (TOH) into the mire (YVN) is eliminated (ShYN) by divine Fire (ASh). Notes The Shin mandala is the ‘nucleus’ of Jacob’s Wheel. The Hebrew letter Shin (‫ )ש‬is positioned at the centre of the mandala. It represents the evolutionary Fire (ASh, ‫ )אש‬that drives the growth and development of Jacob’s Wheel. The plenary value of Shin is 360 (ShYN, ‫—)שין‬representing perhaps the 360 degrees of a circle/wheel. The Hebrew word ASh (Fire) is found spelled in its plenary form (ALP ShYN) on the combined 2nd and 7th spokes. ALP (Alef) appears on the 2nd spoke, and ShYN (Shin) appears on the 7th spoke. The word ShYN (on the 7th spoke) has a Vav (w) inserted within it bringing the total value of the word to 366 (ShVYN). This symbolizes perhaps the maximum number of days in the wheel of Earth’s calendar year. RLA on the first spoke of the first mandala is an obvious reference to the '231 gates' (which actually derive 462 paths or ‘phases’). MTzBTh (i.e. including the central letter Tav) - 1) pillar, mastaba, stump. 1a) pillar. 1a1) as monument, personal memorial. 1a2) with an altar. 1b) (Hoph) stock, stump (of tree). Spoke 3 : OGN - 1) (Niphal) to shut oneself in or off or up. Summary: A monument (MTzBTh) to the New Moon (ChDSh) with the angel Yophiel (YVP) attending marks the entrance to the 231 (RL”A) openings (PYVTh) of delight (ONG) and disease (NGO). Notes The Tav mandala is the first mandala of Jacob’s Wheel. The design instructions for this mandala are encoded in verse 2:4 of the Sefer Yetzirah. The entire blueprint of Jacob’s Wheel is based on the design principles of this mandala. Twenty-two Foundation Letters: He placed them in a wheel (GLGL) like a wall with 231 (RL”A) Gates. The wheel rotates back and forth. A sign for this is: There is nothing in good higher than Delight (ONG) There is nothing in evil lower than Plague (NGO). [Sefer Yetzirah 2:4.] The references to twenty-two letters being placed in a wheel (GLGL); to RLA; and to the code-word ONG/NGO, all cryptically refer to the blueprint of the first mandala of Jacob’s Wheel. The Tav mandala is one of only four mandalas whose spokes all reduce to one common number—in this case, the number six. The first four spokes of the Tav mandala (and therefore the first four spokes of Jacob’s Wheel in general) have gematria values that are combinations of the numbers 1, 2, and 3. Spoke 1 = 231 Spoke 2 = 132 Spoke 3 = 123 Spoke 4 = 312 This is significant because of the emphasis the Sefer Yetzirah places on Hebrew letter combinations and permutations. If we associate the numbers 1,2,3 with the letters of the kabbalistic formula YHV then we see that the third spoke (whose gematria value is 123) is symbolic of the divine Name YHV. This spoke contains the Hebrew word ONG which is one of the code-words in Sefer Yetzirah verse 2:4. Thus, we can say ONG (123) = YHV. The other code-word NGO (2-3-1) then becomes equivalent to HVY. Of course, 231 is the gematria value of the first spoke. The number 231 and the formula HVY are both central to the metaphysics of the Sefer Yetzirah. The latter formula governs the arrangement of the twelve simple Hebrew letters to the twelve edges of the Holy Temple Octahedron. Note that Tav is the 22nd (i.e. final) letter of the Hebrew alphabet, and that Kaf is the 11th letter of the Hebrew alphabet. Tav represents the Moon, while Kaf (located at the centre of the alphabet) is associated with the astrological Sun. Notes The letters on the spokes of Jacob’s Wheel represent complexes of fundamental ideas (or archetypes) that sometimes coincide with known Hebrew words. When no Hebrew words are found on a spoke it simply means that the ‘idea complex’ (or ‘energy expression’) that the letters represent is presently unknown (or unrealized) and therefore has not yet been formulated in the Hebrew language. Alternatively, it may mean that the original Hebrew word has become lost in the millennia of the past. In the Sefer Yetzirah the Hebrew letter Alef represents the ‘Breath of the Living God’, the ‘Holy Breath’, and ‘Breath From Breath’. Alef symbolizes the ‘Cosmic Air’ element (which is a far higher principle than the mundane air element). Therefore, it’s quite a synchronicity to see the Hebrew word for ‘air’ (AVYR) so obviously visible in this mandala. Verse 2:4 of the Sefer Yetzirah refers to the first mandala of Jacob’s Wheel (i.e. the Tav mandala). Similarly, verses 2:5 and 2:6 allude to the second mandala of Jacob’s Wheel (i.e. the Alef mandala). The following translations are from Hayman. How did he weigh and exchange them? - Aleph with them all, and them all with Aleph; Bet with them all, and them all with Bet. And they all rotate in turn. The result is that [they go out] by two hundred and twenty-one (read: 231) [gates]. The result is that all creation and all speech go out by one name (BShM AChD). [Sefer Yetzirah §19b.] [Corresponds to verse 2:5 in Kaplan.] The statement “two hundred and twenty-one” is a well-recognized scribal error. It should be 231. All the versions of the Sefer Yetzirah that Hayman examines in his excellent book have ‘by one name’ (BShM AChD) as the final line of this section. One version even has BShM ALP AChD—i.e. it includes the plenary form (i.e. ALP) of Alef in its phraseology. The syntagm ‘by one name’ occurs on the first spoke of the Alef mandala. He formed substance from chaos, and he made them its existence, and he hewed out great columns from intangible air (AVYR). This is the sign: [Aleph with them all, and them all with Aleph] He looks and exchanges; he makes all creation and all speech one name. And a sign for the matter: twenty-two objects and one body. [Sefer Yetzirah §20-22.] [Corresponds to verse 2:6 in Kaplan.] Hayman translates the original literal phrase ‘air that cannot be grasped’ as ‘intangible air’. The Hebrew word AVYR (‘air’) appears on the fifth spoke of the Alef mandala. Note the reoccurrence of the syntagm ‘one name’—again alluding to the first spoke of the Alef mandala. Some versions of the Sefer Yetzirah have the wording ‘twenty-two objects in one body’ as opposed to ‘twenty-two objects and one body’. In any case, the ‘body’ is the Jacob’s Wheel mandala in which the twenty-two letters are placed. As it’s written in verse 2:4—“Twenty-two Foundation Letters: He placed them in a wheel…”.
