The European colonizers treated the natural environment, the wild lives, and the plant lives in the Global South as insurmountable, wild and redundant. Ample of literary, historical and anthropological records from the colonial era reveal how the naturescapes in Africa, Asia, and other parts of the Global South have been perceived as 'wild, dark and uncivilized' because the Europeans encountered a lot of challenges in taming, pruning, shaping, and reconfiguring the natural environment according to their whims and fancies. With the passage of time, such problematic narratives have systemically, epistemically, ontologically, and ideologically trickled down from one generation to another in the forms of folk tales, children's tales, poetries, short stories, novels and various other forms of narratives. This article uses Russian poet Kornei Chukovsky's poem Doctor Powderpill as a reference point. Through attempting a postcolonial critique of the poem, the article unfolds the possible 'ecological postcolonialscapes,' which can be implemented to re-read and reinterpret the existing histories, cultures, literatures, and societies around us in a 'trans-habitual' existential way.
This narrative study addressed the research question, What are the leadership narratives of the workplace chaplaincy field in North American businesses? Eleven individuals with a lived experience of workplace spirituality or workplace chaplaincy in the areas of Madison and Middleton, Wisconsin participated in the study. The data entailed company artifacts, symbols and lengthy interviews with chaplaincy service providers, Capital Chaplains, Inc., and three businesses that utilize workplace chaplains. The study captured the benefits, challenges, and fruits of the workplace chaplaincy field to organically define what it is and purposed to do. The key findings revealed that the relational and pluralism aspects were the key drivers and sources of effectiveness. When comparing the claims of Employee Assistance Programs (EAP) to Chaplain Assistance Programs (CAP), this study elicits conversation on the future of what employee assistance programs will or could look like. Outside the religious/cleric and spiritual services that CAP provides, the study revealed the relational aspect as the major differences of the two frameworks. This study explored why the rates of use claims for CAP services outweigh EAP usage rates based on the relational aspect. With CAP search to become more inclusive and claims of low rates of usage for companies offering EAP services, perhaps the future of employee assistance program could be offered in a combination of the two (EAP/CAP) called Relational Assistance Programs (RAP), as a middle ground framework to best service company employees within the United States.
