The life of John Calvin

EBENEZER THEOLOGICAL COLLEGE AND UNIVERSITY January 7, 2020 Jerry Rojas Calvinism John Calvin was born in 1509, however he does not say much about his conversion in 1536 -1539 he only makes a powerful statement about his conversion to Christianity Oh God has subdued my heart’’. Calvin preached about seven times a week because he was passionate about teaching and educating the people of God in Geneva and beyond Geneva. Calvin labored monumentally and he literally wore himself out proclaiming the gospel. In 1559 Calvin brought the gospel to Brazil he believed passionately in missions. The amazing grace of God Roman 11:33-36 (O the depth of the riches and the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and, unfathomable are His ways! For who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has become His counselor? Or who has first given to Him, and it shall be repaid to him? For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be glory forever Amen!) This writer is not clinical he is not argumentative he is astonished at the fundamental word of God for who has known the mind of the Lord. John Calvin heart has been overwhelmed by the word of God that has captured him. Calvinism is based on the fact that God has chosen us, we have not chosen Him. God’s sovereign Biblical truth reforms and restyles the life of the believer, Calvinism honors God’s unconditional sovereignty Ephesians 1:11. (In Him we have received an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will) Prayer is the life of the church if we say we are Christians we much pray. Prayer was the hall mark of the church in Geneva where John Calvin was the pastor. Act 1:14 (These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication) Calvin believed that for God to love us, that is Grace. For John Calvin said God broke into my life and subdued me. Jesus Christ Himself is the Grace of God, Calvin magnifies the grace of God. He was impregnated with deep wonder, when we glorify and magnify the Glory of God, we worship and that my reader is awesome. In addition to his seminal Institutes of the Christian religion Calvin wrote commentaries on most books of the bible, confessional documents, and various other theological treatises. Calvin was originally trained as a lawyer. He broke away from the Roman catholic Church around 1530. The Lutherans who opposed John Calvin called his movement Calvinism. Calvinism in simple terms belongs to the reformed tradition of Protestantism, Today, this term also means the doctrines and practices of the reformed churches, of which Calvin was an early Leader, and the system is perhaps best known for its doctrine’s predestination. John Calvin affirms the sovereignty of God and therefore has the control of who is predestine to salvation and who is predestine to damnation. Calvinism places more emphasis on election than any other branch of Christianity. Returning to John Calvin’s experience his life was shaped by a life of holiness and the authority of the word of God as the shadow of the cross begins to penetrated his heart. Calvin labored to bring peace in the divide body of Christ. He was willing to go through any difficult or danger to bring peace, love and understanding to the church. This was not a mere personal preference but a strong passion to live for Christ. John 17 (that the world may know that you sent me) Calvin traveled extensively in his days to bring a healing spirit to the church, in those day there was no car, sometimes it took weeks and even months for Calvin to bring unity through redemption to the elect by the father and wash in the blood of the lamb. John Calvin said Living in the face of God frees us from the fear of man. Calvinism is filled with scripture and worship to God. That does not mean that the way we love God will lack in cultural sensitivity. Calvin was a man of strong theological conviction. With John Calvin Christian spirituality is trinitarian (3) God’s supreme love is of the Father but not exclusively, grace is of the son but not exclusively, comfort is of the Holy Spirit but not exclusively yet the father the son and the holy spirit are one. What one does they all do. Calvin rest his life on the amazing love of the father. Conclusion My main beef against Calvinism is the belief that God predestined certain people to be saved before that person was born. This means man has no free will. Jesus died for all humanity.
