Some interesting historical facts More British regiments were deployed to suppress Indian war of indepence of 1857 than in American War of Independence as per official historian of British Army Sir J.Fortescue.
This paper argues that the Nordic boatbuilding tradition and the use of sail in Scandinavia can be traced back to the Early Bronze Age when it developed in response to emerging chiefdoms and an associated need for long-distance trade in bronze metals. The southern Scandinavian boat imagery dated to the Bronze Age (BA) depicts different types of boats and means of propulsion, including large vessels and the use of sail. This paper focuses on crewlines on such imagery as indicative of boat length in relation to both the 350 BC Hjortspring boat, a BA type boat and the width-to-length ratio of BA ship-settings. This comparison suggests the BA boat imagery and ship-settings depict the same type of plank-built vessels and that the BA ship-settings are likely to represent 'real' vessels. Centrally positioned post holes in four of these ship-settings are therefore likely to represent masts, providing a direct link with mast-like features also present in the rock art boat imagery. Available BA boatbuilding technologies, based on analysis of the Hjortspring boat, and other indirect evidence of BA boatbuilding technologies, suggests that large, sailed vessels most likely existed, propelled in combination with mainly paddling.
RoSEResearch on Steiner Education, 2010
This article is the result of a two-year process that has accompanied the establishment of the Nordic Master Degree Programme in Waldorf Education (2004-2006). Its content grew out of dialogues within the Study Counsel of the Masters Degree Programme and dialogues with the Association of Waldorf schools and the Pedagogical Section of the School of Spiritual Science in Norway. It has since 2006 been used as a framework for a National curriculum project. Development of Waldorf Education is not conceivable without developing a culture of research in touch with the core of Steiner's pedagogical impulse. What does this mean? It means we need a research strategy for Waldorf Education. And it means that this strategy must be meaningful to the public, the Waldorf teachers, the Waldorf schools and school movement, the Waldorf teacher training institutions and the Pedagogical Section. Why: the purpose of a research strategy Ultimately, we need public research in order to communicate and dialogue Steiner education in a world where education-lifelong and flexible-has a growing focus of attention for both governments and business corporations. Such a dialogue is a question of survival of Steiner's impulse for a genuinely human and humane education. The more immediate aim is to develop a culture of research and inquiry amongst teachers and Waldorf schools. There is a strong oral culture of educational practice based dialogue to build on. It needs, however, to be voiced and embedded a continuous written culture of enquiry. The aim Master Degree Programme is to develop the students independent research capacity in the context of the two cultures of research mentioned above. In addition, a research activity among the staff members related to the programme activity is crucial.

Kleos Issue 4 | 2021 The fourth Kleos issue is out! We are proud to present the work of starting scholars of (r)MA, PhD, and even BAlevel in the fields of Ancient History, Classics and Archaeology. The papers included in the issue cover a wide range of subjects, ranging from gendered patterns in funerary practices of the Northwest‐European Corded Ware culture to the opportunities that present day collaborations between game developers and scholars of the ancient past can offer us.

The trend towards lightweight design leads to an increasing demand for sophisticated part geometries with high functional integration. In order to use the advantages of cold forging regarding the time- and resource-efficient production of high-quality parts, high local stresses causing fatigue failure in geometrically complex tools have to be controlled. The objective of this manuscript is to analyse the use of stress pins for a local influence on the stress state within forging, especially in non-circular symmetrical cold forging dies. For this purpose, a closed-die forging process for elliptical parts is designed and analysed regarding the die stresses. Distinct areas with local compressive and tensile stresses occur in the process. To counteract the tensile stresses critical for fatigue failure, the effect of stress pins pressed into the die creating a local prestress is analysed. Around the pins, compressive radial and tensile tangential stresses occur. While large pin diameters...
