The dissertation is an attempt at a qualitative study of the ways of achieving linguistic efficiency in the discourse of electronic women’s magazines from a comparative aspect and, more specifically, at doing this on the basis of a custom-made corpus of web headlines from two websites of the Cosmopolitan women’s magazine. Taking into consideration the results from the analysis, the adopted frame and scope of the study, as well as its limitations, the following contributions can be formulated: 1.The study attempts to integrate various theoretical approaches to the study of text, discourse and computer-mediated discourse by means of applying a text-linguistic notion (the regulative principle of efficiency) to the analysis of a computer-mediated discourse (web headlines). 2.For the first time the qualitatively new context of the World Wide Web and web headlines in particular are analyzed in terms of the regulative principle of efficiency. 3.For the first time an attempt is made at a comparative analysis of English and Bulgarian in terms of efficiency within the computer-mediated discourse of web headlines. 4.An original, custom-made corpus of screenshots is created, which comprises a total number of 2200 web headlines (1100 headlines from each of the two websites – the American and the Bulgarian one). The preserving of the original appearance of the corpus materials is motivated by the instability of content on the World Wide Web (the “dead link” phenomenon, whereby users are told that the webpage they are looking for “no longer exists”) and it also makes it possible for the corpus materials to be utilized in further research in order to achieve comparable and reliable results. 5.On the basis of the corpus materials, the most popular patterns utilized in the creation of web-headlines for each of the two websites (Cosmopolitan United States and Cosmopolitan Bulgaria) are described and grouped in terms of the specific features of their structure. 6.The contributions to efficiency of the consistent application of these patterns is discussed: the pattern is a container or a template which provides empty positions (“slots”) to be filled with new elements in order to create a headline; efficiency is enhanced as a result of the consistent and repetitive use of a limited set of productive patterns, whereby the fewer the patterns and the higher their frequency of occurrence, the faster users can learn to extract the new information from the headline. 7.The contributions to efficiency of the specific cohesive devices each of the two languages (English and Bulgarian) applies within the patterns themselves are discussed in terms of their contributions to efficiency: the compacting of surface structure and thus the facilitating of faster and easier “scanning” of the headline; the ensuring of a light processing load due to the utilization of the context of situation and its affordances and resources.

Open Innovation promises higher outcomes from innovation processes through collaboration and sharing knowledge and the intellectual assets. Inclusion of suppliers, customers or users, partners, and even competitors in innovative processes can help to overcome constraints on internal resources. For ICT companies that operate in ecosystems of technology development zones (TDZ), open innovation approach becomes more critical mostly due to the scale and experience constraints. To understand the barriers of open innovation for ICT firms in TDZs can significantly help strategy and decision makers in designing policies and actions to empower innovation processes in order to overcome these barriers and hence to utilize open innovation for higher competitiveness. Various researchers examined the challenges of open innovation in various contexts, as well as the innovativeness and business performances of TDZ companies. However, there is still a room for research on exploring the dimensions of motives and barriers of open innovation practices of these companies. This study aims to explore the barriers for open innovation in ICT TDZ companies through surveys and in-depth interviews that are carried out in 102 ICT firms in TDZs in Turkey. By applying factor analysis, the main barriers to openness are identified and relationships of these barriers with the company's characteristics explored. Findings reveal that the most frequently perceived constraints are financial and administrative problems. The crucial role of interleukin (1L)-4 in the induction of murine IgGl and IgE responses, which are coupled through the process of sequential isotype switching, has been well documented. Whereas IL-4 is obligatory for the induction of IgE responses, it enhances IgGl responses. In this study, using neutralizing antibodies, we provide evidence that, besides IL-4, also IL-6 is required for obtaining peak IgGl responses. The mRNA levels of these two cytokines are coordinately expressed in the spleen of mice immunized with trinitrophenol-keyhole limpet hemocyanin (TNP-KLH). No IL-6 requirement was observed for peak IgE responses. The IL-6 dependence of IgGl responses was found for both antigenspecific and polyclonal responses. Moreover, it was noted using TNP-KLH and goat anti-mouse (GAM) IgD as antigen that polyclonal IgGl responses are more dependent on IL-6 than antigen-specific responses. In vitro experiments revealed that exogenous IL-6 neither enhanced nor inhibited the IgGl and IgE production by naive B cells, suggesting that IL-6 did not interfere with the IL-4-induced isotype switch potential. Primary and memory IgGl responses were both similarly dependent on IL-6. These observations point to a role of IL-6 in the terminal differentation of B cells switched to IgGl. Neutralization of IL-6 did not inhibit either antigen-specific or polyclonal IgE responses. Therefore, it was concluded that IL-6 is not involved in the terminal differentiation of B cells switched to IgE. These findings thus provide a distinct role for IL-6, besides IL-4, in regulating murine IgGl responses. The formation of IgE, however, is completely dependent on IL-4 alone.
