Kumaon region in Uttarakhand, India is famous for its high-altitude mountains, large forest area and famous hill stations frequented by people throughout the year. The region is inhabited by large number of ethnic groups along with migrated population from nearby states thus reflecting cultural integrity of country. A face to face survey was conducted to local housewives in different villages and the traditional healers of that area to gather information about traditional recipes prepared from locally available food grains and other plant species important in Kumauni culture. The survey confirmed that the plant species used for the preparation of the delicious recipes are also medicinally important and used by natives for the treatment of different ailments. In this review a brief description of few of the famous Kumaoni recipes is presented along with important phytoconstituents present in them. A brief description of the medicinal and pharmacological uses has also been given. This study indicates that the Kumaoni people are not only well verse in utilizing the medicinally important natural flora for treatment of different ailments but also in their daily cuisines also. The native people here are simple, hardworking and very hospitable to tourists, usually serving the local food to them. However as per demand of tourist there has been change in the cuisines also.

The question of the function of beaker vessels, commonly assimilated to our modern "feeding bottles", is in the center of this article. The inventory and analysis of the contexts in which they were found shows that they were found in individuals who were well past the age of weaning : this unique function can therefore be questioned. Especially since organic analyses, carried out on some forty specimens, allow us to note that milk only appears in 30% of the vases ; on the other hand, various substances, such as castor oil, vegetable decoctions (leaves, barks or roots), mineral substances or excrements, lead us to favour a therapeutic function, intended to care for dependent patients, both children and adults. However, the impregnation analysis of a vase with a deliberately deformed spout, placed on the pelvis of an adolescent girl holding a fragment of a perinatal skull in her left hand, revealed in particular red wine and egg. In addition to this remarkable staging, this singular content allows us to envisage a highly symbolic value for this beaked vase, sometimes assimilated, by analogy, to the original womb, or even to the lost child.
This study investigates morphological differences between flakes produced via " core and flake " technologies and those resulting from bifacial shaping strategies. We investigate systematic variation between two technological groups of flakes using experimentally produced assemblages, and then apply the experimental model to the Cutting 10 Mid-Pleistocene archaeological collection from Elandsfontein, South Africa. We argue that a specific set of independent variables—and their interactions—including external platform angle, platform depth, measures of thickness variance and flake curvature should distinguish between these two technological groups. The role of these variables in technological group separation was further investigated using the Generalized Linear Model as well as Linear Discrimi-nant Analysis. The Discriminant model was used to classify archaeological flakes from the Cutting 10 locality in terms of their probability of association, within either experimentally developed technological group. The results indicate that the selected independent variables play a central role in separating core and flake from bifacial technologies. Thickness even-ness and curvature had the greatest effect sizes in both the Generalized Linear and Dis-criminant models. Interestingly the interaction between thickness evenness and platform depth was significant and played an important role in influencing technological group membership. The identified interaction emphasizes the complexity in attempting to distinguish flake production strategies based on flake morphological attributes. The results of the dis-criminant function analysis demonstrate that the majority of flakes at the Cutting 10 locality were not associated with the production of the numerous Large Cutting Tools found at the site, which corresponds with previous suggestions regarding technological behaviors reflected in this assemblage.
Ayacucho.
