Security has become a major issue globally and in order to manage the security challenges and reduce the security risks in the world, biometric systems such as face detection and recognition systems have been built. These systems are capable of providing biometric security, crime prevention and video surveillance services because of their inbuilt verification and identification capabilities(Hjelmas & Kee Low, 2001). This has become possible due to technological advancement in the fields of automated face analysis, machine learning and pattern recognition (Wojcik et al, 2016). In the paper, we review some biometric and facial recognition techniques.
Biometrics is a rising technology, which has been broadly used in forensics, protected access and prison security. This biometric system is basically a type of pattern recognition system that identifies a person by defining the authentication through using his distinctive biological characteristics i.e. Thumb impression, retina-scan, iris scan, palm geometry, and face recognition are top physiological biometrics and behavioral traits are Speech recognition, keystroke-scan, and signature-scan. In this paper different types of biometric techniques such as Iris scan, retina scans and face recognition techniques are being discussed.

Facial Recognition, the biggest breakthrough in Biometric identification and security since fingerprints, uses an individual's facial features to identify and recognize them. A technology that seems too farfetched taken straight from a science fiction novel is now available in smartphones in the palm of our hands. Facial Recognition has gained traction as the primary method of identification whether its mobile phones, smart security systems, ID verification or something as simple as login in a website. Recent strides in facial recognition technologies have made it possible to design, build and implement a facial recognition system ourself. Using Computer Vision and machine learning libraries like Facial Recognition and Dlib, we can create a robust system that can detect faces and then match and identify it with a database of pre-loaded facial data to successfully recognize them. This study conducted a literature review of these aforementioned technologies and various other advancements in the field of computer vision facial recognition by other scholars in their research papers. This paper analyzes domains to understand the working of these machine learning models and their different implementations in facial recognition systems. The research conducted by us during this review will be paramount in creating a proof-of-concept prototype facial recognition system.

FACE recognition is an important research problem in the field of Pattern Recognition. As one of the most successful applications of image analysis and understanding, face recognition has recently received significant attention, especially during the past several years. Even though current machine recognition systems have reached a certain level of maturity, their success is limited by the conditions imposed by many real applications. For example, recognition of face images acquired in an outdoor environment with changes in illumination and/or pose remains a largely unsolved problem. In other words, current systems are still far away from the capability of the human perception system. Human Face Recognition has become a potential method of biometric authentication because of its most non-intrusive and user-friendly nature. Automatic face recognition poses various challenges due to: (a) inherent variability of face due to age, gender and race; (b) different facial expressions and ori...

Face recognition has now become one of the interesting fields of research and has received a substantial attention of researchers from all over the world. Face recognition techniques has been mostly used in the discipline of image analysis, image processing, etc. One of the face recognition techniques is used to develop a face recognition system to detect a human face in an image. In face recognition system a digital image with a human face is given as an input which extracts the significant features of face such as (eyes, nose, chin, cheeks, etc) to recognize a face in a digital image which is an exhausting task. Security of information is very salient feature and is difficult to achieve. Security cameras are present in offices, universities, banks, ATMs, etc. All these security cameras are embedded with face recognition systems. There are various algorithms which are used to solve this problem. This paper provides an overview of various techniques which are often used for this face recognition in a face recognition system. This paper is divided into five parts, first section concludes various face detection techniques, second section describes about image processing ,third section have details about face recognition techniques, fourth section describes various classification methods and last section concludes all of these sections.

""Face recognition presents a challenging problem in the field of image analysis and computer vision. The security of information is becoming very significant and difficult. Security cameras are presently common in airports, Offices, University, ATM, Bank and in any locations with a security system. Face recognition is a biometric system used to identify or verify a person from a digital image. Face Recognition system is used in security. Face recognition system should be able to automatically detect a face in an image. This involves extracts its features and then recognize it, regardless of lighting, expression, illumination, ageing, transformations (translate, rotate and scale image) and pose, which is a difficult task. This paper contains three sections. The first section describes the common methods like holistic matching method, feature extraction method and hybrid methods. The second section describes applications with examples and finally third section describes the future research directions of face recognition.""

With the advancement of technology, there is a vast demand of technological development in the sector of security. One of the best way possible for ensuring security is the use of human body identification. Face biometrics is one of the hottest topic in the market. It has now received more attention. Many big organisations and multinational technological companies are special attention towards this topic including Tesla, etc. as this technology will be beneficial for multiple fields from security to transportation to solving crimes. Face biometrics, useful for a person's authentication is a simple and nonintrusive method that recognizes face in complex multidimensional visual model and develops a computational model for it. Having developed many technological advances in this sector there is still a lot of scope of improvement. In this paper, first, we are going to present an overview of face recognition and discuss the methodology and its functioning and the different techniques involved in the same. Thereafter we will represent the most recent face recognition techniques listing their advantages and disadvantages. Some techniques specified here also improve the efficiency of face recognition under various illumination and expression condition of face images.

In the digital world, biometrics is used for authentication or recognition to examine and confirm a person's distinguishing physical or behavioral attributes. There are many authentication systems available today that use iris, fingerprint, and face features for identification and verification. Face recognition-based systems are the most popular since they don't always need the user's assistance, are more automated, and are simple to use. Face recognition paves the way for an innovative way to perceive a human face. Face recognition and identification have been used in access control systems, which have become widely used in security frameworks during the past few years. With the help of biometrics, a facial recognition system can extract facial details from a picture or video. The data is compared to a database of recognized faces to identify a match. Personal identity can be confirmed through facial recognition. This review paper offers a comparison of various facial recognition methods.
