ARCHAEOLOGICAL
PROJECT
JUNE
- JULY 4
This site of Santa Susana holds a villa
complex important to our understanding
of the processes of colonization
and settlement in this part of the Roman
Empire. Preliminary work at the site
suggests a rich artifact assemblage dating
from the st cent. C.E. through the th
cent. C.E. In our sixth season, an intensive
survey combined with open area excavation in a domestic space and bath complex will aid in understanding the extent
and nature of occupation at the site.
Field school students will receive
instruction in surveying techniques,
the handling and processing of artifacts,
archaeological excavation, and the
recording of exposed areas and features.
No prior archaeological experience is
necessary.
Participants may attend for , , or
week sessions. Tuition is $
for
weeks, $
for weeks, or $
for
weeks and includes room, board, and
transportation within Portugal.
