DC motor

Electricity is highly used today by most of the people all around the world and as time pass by it is becoming more expensive. Emergency power source is also needed, especially during calamities and power shortage blackout. Generators and batteries are the most common way to get emergency power source. One example of a generator is a DC motor generator, by using a DC motor you can produce electricity and use it to power a device. A motor is an electrical machine which converts electrical energy into mechanical energy or mechanical energy to electrical energy. “The principle of working of a DC motor is that whenever a current carrying conductor is placed in a magnetic field, it experiences a mechanical force (Daware, 2015)". “The stator is a permanent magnet and provides a constant magnetic field. The armature, which is the rotating part, is a simple coil. The armature is connected to a DC power source through a pair of commutator rings. When the current flows through the coil an electromagnetic force is induced on it according to the Lorentz law, so the coil will start to rotate (DC Motor: How it works?, 2011)”. “Any DC motor with permanent magnets can easily be a generator (Tyrrell, 2016)”. “The turning of a coil in a magnetic field produces motional emfs in both sides of the coil which add. Since the component of the velocity perpendicular to the magnetic field changes sinusoidally with the rotation, the generated voltage is sinusoidal or AC. This process can be described in terms of Faraday's law when you see that the rotation of the coil continually changes the magnetic flux through the coil and therefore generates a voltage (Nave, 2016)”.
