THE INDO NORDIC AUTHORS’ COLLECTIVE, 2024
The GRAIL is a treasure that serves as an important motif in Arthurian literature. Different traditions describe it as a cup, dish or stone with miraculous powers that provide happiness, eternal youth or sustenance in infinite abundance, often in the custody of the Fisher King. The term "holy grail" is often used to denote an elusive object or goal that is sought after for its great significance.

Works of O.Yu. Kuts to the study of the history of the Don Cossacks (in memory of the scientist). The article is devoted to a analysis of the works of O.Yu. Kuts on the history of the Don Cossacks of the 17th Century. The historian’s monographs and publications, which are distinguished by their extensiveness, explore issues of the formation of the Cossack community, the features of its social organization and relations with the Russian State. Much attention is paid to the military-administrative structure of the Don Host and regional trade. Research by O.Yu. Kuts shows that the ranks of the Don Cossacks were replenished by the free population of the southern Counties of Russia, who belonged to different social groups (from serfs to boyar children), with the participation of the Turkic element. Contrary to popular opinion in historiography, the flight of serfs to the Don was episodic. According to the observations of the historian, the military and industrial activity of the Cossacks in the Azov Region and on the Black Sea served as an important deterrent to the raiding activity of the Crimean Khanate. The researcher came to the conclusion that the possession of Azov in 1637–1641 played a fatal role in the history of the Don Host, contributed to its weakening and rapprochement with the Russian State.
Translatability of Emotions: Cross-Cultural Transdisciplinary Encounters,, 2022
TEN NONVERBAL SEMIOTIC SYSTEMS ARE DISCUSSED: EIDETIC (Linguistics, Mathematics, Logics) AND EMPIRICAL (Proxemics, Chronemics, Ocularics, Kinesics, Haptics, Vocalics, and Olfactorics). Emotion displays on your face are an iconic sign of comportment—your disposition to act in a particular way. Most importantly, these nonverbal kinemes suggest the semiotic system (Peirce’s tone, token, type) that will contextually code the action impact of your verbal message. In short, how your face looks (tone) when you speak (token) will set the meaning frame (type) for what your listener hears you say (a translation with value significations). These phenomenological facts are most obvious to persons who engage in transcultural communication. At this level of interaction, the full dynamic system of (1) intra-personal, (2) inter-personal, (3) intra-group, and (4) inter-group communication is on visual display. The analysis uses the basic model of space (proxemics) and kinesics (human body motion). Communicology includes research and application on the emotion cycle of face displays (Happiness > Surprise > Fear > Anger > Disgust > Sadness > [Happiness] ). I review the cross-cultural research on the technology of “face recognition software” now current as a growing ethical and political concern for communication policy where there is a cultural perception preference. The analysis compares and contrasts Egocentric (US America) and Sociocentric (PR China) cultures of communication.
Teaching and Learning Anthropology, 2024
This article explores how teaching Urban Anthropology can engender new relationships between cities, students, and classrooms. We discuss the generative connections between these actors as processes of becoming, which connect students with practices and theories for understanding urban life. Serving also as an introduction to a Special Issue on "Teaching the City," this article introduces the issue's pieces, which discuss teaching and learning across three continents. It also reflects on their collective contributions as an opportunity to think anew about the city through teaching. The four authors of this piece contributed equal labor.
