Diversidad, distribución y legislación de los mamíferos marinos en el Pacífico mexicano. GEOMARE ZOOLOGICA Vol. 5 (1): 1‒17. Marzo 14, 2023, 2023
In the Mexican Pacific, the marine mammals belong to the orders Cetacea (9 families, 25 genera and 35 species), Carnivora (3 families, 6 genera and 10 species) and Chiroptera (one family, one genus and one species). These 46 species represent 34% of the recognized marine mammal species globally. Among the species of cetaceans, some are residents, such as the fin whale (Balaenoptera physalus), and others migratory such as the blue whale (B. musculus). Some species are very abundant such as the spotted dolphin (Stenella attenuata), while others only have very sporadic records, such as the right whale (Eubalaena japonica). Four species of carnivores have breeding colonies: the California sea lion (Zalophus californianus), the Guadelupe fur seal (Arctocephalus philippii townsendi), the common seal (Phoca vitulina), and the northern elephant seal (Mirounga angustirostris). In addition, five other species have only sporadic records. The sea otter (Enhydra lutris) is most likely already extinct in Mexico. Finally, the Mexican fishing bat (Myotis vivesi) is endemic to the Gulf of California. In Mexico there is appropriate legislation for the management and conservation of marine mammals, however in recent history the country has been affected by international lawsuits such as the tuna embargo for dolphin mortality and, currently, another demand for the lack of protection to the vaquita marina.

This work suggests a possible way to shed light on how our universe functions by assuming that we are in a five-dimension universe (or more). Although the five-dimensional Randell-Sundrum model avoids the necessity to consider all current scientific theories, this five-dimensional universe hypothesis is more natural and much simpler.

This paper examines the features and practices of military command during a war of conquest, as exhibited by Castilian captains at the dawn of Iberian Atlantic expansion between the Late Middle Ages and the Early Modern Age. Focusing on Castilian royal chronicles of military campaigns against the aboriginal people of the Canary Islands, such texts demonstrate continuities with the military discourse developed during the war against the Muslims in medieval Spain, as well as adaptation to a new geographical, social and cultural context, embodied in the experiences of the conquest of the Americas.

W.E.B. Du Bois’s The Souls of Black Folk (1903) often speaks in terminology that resonates distinctively with New English Protestant discourse. Souls does so partly because of a growing indifference among formerly animated Northeastern white abolitionists, which imperiled Black voting rights at the turn of the twentieth century. This article argues that Souls articulates a Black literary identity through metaphors reminiscent of Nathaniel Hawthorne’s “The Minister’s Black Veil,” a text that takes on new meanings in light of the hermeneutics practiced within Souls. Du Bois reminds white Protestants that all America’s souls, regardless of race, remain bound by a sacramental force in New English visions of American democracy, while simultaneously drawing on Calvinist rhetoric to insist on the importance of liberal education to the personal and social transformation of African Americans.

n the past, research has been conducted on what causes clients to remain with a bank in the global banking business. Relationship marketing is predicated on customer retention; hence, these findings encourage authors of scholarly marketing literature to include these aspects. This study looks at how bonding, responsiveness, and communication directly affect customer retention and customer satisfaction, as well as how bonding, responsiveness, and communication indirectly affect customer retention via customer satisfaction. Through the use of the convenience sampling method, a total of 384 customers were chosen. An investigation of banking customers was carried out in the form of a cross-sectional survey, making use of a structured questionnaire. The results showed that bonding and communication had a direct and significant effect on keeping customers, but responsiveness did not. Also, bonding, communication, and responsiveness have a direct and significant effect on customer satisfaction. In a similar vein, customer satisfaction has a direct effect on customer retention. On the other hand, bonding and responsiveness were seen to have an indirect but significant effect on customer retention via customer satisfaction, whereas communication did not. The study suggests that managers retain consumers by promptly reacting to customer needs and communicating effectively. This will assist them in satisfying and retaining customers.
The author of this translation of the famous Protocols was himself a victim of the Revolution. He had lived for many years in Russia and was married to a Russian lady. Among his other activities in Russia he had been for a number of years a Russian Correspondent of the MORNING POST, a position which he occupied when the Revolution broke out, and his vivid descriptions of events in Russia will still be in the recollection of many of the readers of that Journal. Naturally he was singled out for the anger of the Soviet. On the day that Captain Cromie was murdered by Jews, Victor Marsden was arrested and thrown into the Peter-Paul Prison, expecting every day to have his name called out for execution. This, however, he escaped, and eventually he was allowed to return to England very much of a wreck in bodily health. However, he recovered under treatment and the devoted care of his wife and friends. One of the first things he undertook, as soon as he was able, was this translation of the Protocols. Mr. Marsden was eminently well qualified for the work. His intimate acquaintance with Russia, Russian life and the Russian language on the one hand, and his mastery of a terse literary English style on the other, placed him in a position of advantage which few others could claim. The consequence is that we have in his version an eminently readable work, and though the subject-matter is somewhat formless, Mr. Marsden's literary touch reveals the thread running through the twenty-four Protocols. It may be said with truth that this work was carried out at the cost of Mr. Marsden's own life's blood. He told the writer of this Preface that he could not stand more than an hour at a time of his work on
On a bright sunny September day in 2001 New York’s Trade City center and Washington’s Pentagon have been attacked by Al-Qaeda and killed nearly 3000 people. These events are known best as “9/11” are considered to be a turning point in history of America and modern journalism. In this essay I will be analyzing how events were being reported to us using structural analysis of the signifier and signified and semiotic approach described in Roland Barthes book Mythologies (1972). I will be discussing how analytical ideas presented in Mythologies can help to understand myth created in media coverage.
