In this research we investigate whether CityGML is a suitable information exchange format for Malaysian geospecial data infrastructure (SDI). 2D existing highly detailed CAD data with lots of layers and rectified perpendicular symmetric photos of 3D objects such as buildings and trees were used to generate the 3D models of Putrajaya. The 3D models were generalized in LOD2.5 with higher Level of Realism (LoR). Texture enhancement methods such as texture left-right or up-down symmetrical transformation and higher radiometric adjustment for raised surfaces and Dynamic Pulse Function (DPF) were used in this work and they are based on facet situation and observation for tessellating the textures. Missing faces of polyhedrons and missing objects problems within CityGML have been solved and described in this paper. The paper also describes the development of External Code-Lists for objects of study area.
Interactive simulations, virtual environments and 3D interfaces significantly contribute to the process of learning through collab-oration and interaction with distant participants, and through simulation of real environments and real life situations. Depend-ing on the needs and case studies, different technologies, soft-ware packages and their combinations are used. In this paper, we present a comparative study based on the use of different CAD software in conjunction with Web3D technologies for teaching students at the Department of Engineering Management. With respect to the specificity of the profile of students undergoing training, the selection of CAD packages is reduced to the five most commonly used in this field: SolidWorks, Inventor, CATIA, Pro/ENGINEER and AutoCAD. Building Information Modeling (BIM) provides a framework for collaboration, a multi-disciplinary environment that brings together all the parties of the Architectural, Engineering and Construction industries (AEC). The aim of this experience (an interdisciplinary PhD course based on the BIM methodology used in the Smart Energy Efficient Middleware for Public Spaces - SEEMPubS - FP7 project) was to investigate the team work sharing and the use of interoperability between software, to test the opportunities offered by BIM process applied at existing buildings at the campus of Politecnico di Torino. Two architectural parametric models were realized (one concerning a new building -Classroom I- and one concerning a historical building recently renovated -ISBM offices-) and imported into software for energetic and management analysis using different formats like IFC and gbXML. Several lessons have been learned from these processes in order to optimize the quantity of data that pass from one software to the other ones both for type of data and for format of exchange. This indicates that actually, there is a possibility to better the BIM process, but a support from software houses is required based on the real use of common standard.
This paper analyses the accuracy of a Uniform sky when used for calculating daylight illuminance levels in side-lit buildings. The results of using the Uniform sky are compared against results derived from models that represent real skies in a more accurate fashion using Radiance and 3DS Max® Design. The alternative sky models studied are the CIE (Commission Internationale de l'Éclairage) Clear, CIE Overcast (Hopkinson et al, 1966) and Perez skies (Perez et al, 1993).

Sustainability risks of CAD files in general have already been described in previous studies. Concrete guidelines (file format policies) that take into account the requirements of the archiving organization - such as determining the significant properties and the consequences this has with regard to the migration strategy, however, were lacking. This study attempts to fulfill this need and - based on research of the DWG/DXF file format - gives a number of components of a file format policy for the AutoCAD file format, taking into account the global preservation strategy of Het Nieuwe Instituut and the present or existing infrastructure to be developed.
