Since time immemorial, widowhood has been relegated as a jinx in Indian society. But with time the word has lost its meaning as in today's era a person's psychological and physical health is given more importance than following the tough path of widowhood. In earlier days, this was escored by pain and emotional sufferings, and it broke down a person mentally to such an extent that a person could never be enticed by sense of happiness .widowhood was more challenging for a woman in the past era. Now, this particular sect of woman is well aware of all her rights. Despite being surrounded by the boundaries of customs and traditions, they articulatory put forward their voice and express their desires courageously. This paper explores the emergence and evolution of widows in the recent times and this will be demonstrated through the work of a Pakistani writer Musharraf Ali Farooqi "The story of a Widow". The protagonist of the novel evolves beautifully when she hears her own voice and seeks individuality.

Women get easily exposed to exploitation in a patriarchal society. It has taken centuries together, for women, to voice out their problems to the outside world. Most of the people will opine that the women are standing ahead in most of the odd professions in the current society. Still, the education they seek and the professions they take are not liberating them from the psychological pressures. They will be seen as ‗Free Women' by the society. But, whether those women are really enjoying their freedom or not is known only to them. In such a scenario, some women have tried to speak for their-Real Freedom‖. Some of them have been using Literature as a medium of representation. Though this has been going on for several decades, the Question of Women Emancipation from the clutches of several issues in this society is left unanswered, thus leading the women to struggle for their existence in and outside the family. Vanaja Tatineni is a Telugu Blogger and a short story writer. She maintains a blog with the name-Vanaja Vanamaali‖ which was started way back in 2010. She has a collection of 95 short stories in her blog. Some among them are first hand publications where as some others are published in several magazines before she posted them in her blog. Majority of her stories have Women as the central characters. Most of these women are either from the Middle or the lower classes of the society. The strained familial relations, hardships of Single Mothers, women aspiring for financial independence and seeking freedom from the clutches of tormenting husbands are recurring themes of her stories. The current paper tries to see and analyse how the blogger uses her stories as a tool to reflect the lives of the current Indian women who are in a quest for their identity. It also takes the help of some official statistics of Women headed households and Trends in work force participation in order to show whether there is really a variation in the lives of Indian women or not. The paper will pay a special focus on the treatment received by the women who are actively contributing in and outside the family.

It is not easy to archive the profound historical exploitation endured by widows, a tenacious issue of societal concern. Within the context of this discourse, the scrutinized novels serve to illuminate the distressing plight experienced by widows, employing a poignant metaphor that draws parallels between their predicament and a fragile leaf forcibly severed from the societal tree. These women, who were once vibrant and integral members of their communities, now find themselves mysteriously uprooted, abandoned to languish on the ground, burdened by the oppressive weight of entrenched tradition. A striking embodiment of this thematic exploration emerges in "The Moth-Eaten Howdah of a Tusker," an eminent work in Assamese literature by Jnanpith awardee, Dr. Mamoni Raisom Goswami. Goswami adeptly reflects upon the harsh realities confronted by widows ensnared within the confines of patriarchal traditions. Notably, this narrative draws extensively from the author's own personal experiences as a widow, imbuing it with a profound resonance and authenticity. Furthermore, the challenges faced by Goswami and her characters, situated within the context of upperclass Hindu Brahmin society, offer a compelling point of comparison with the lives of the Dalit widows in "The Grip of Change," a semi-autobiographical novel authored by Palanimuthu Sivakami, a prominent Indian writer and the inaugural Dalit woman novelist in Tamil literature. This discourse will further employ "trauma theory", specifically Judith Herman's Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (C-PTSD) theory, to provide a valuable framework for comprehending the psychological and emotional impact of widowhood and societal discrimination on widows.

Contemporary Nepali short fiction has depicted the plight of the people left at home in their old age when the children seek a better life and settlement in the first world. Such people suffer in silence and perpetually wait for their children to return and embrace them. As the national boundaries have not been able to keep people within them, the family has faced the most critical challenges of our time. It has failed to serve the usual expectations as a social institution. The root cause of such abandonment lies in the crises of family.
