This chapter is drawn from a long-term personal project on the impact of the American Sixties on China's intellectual community since 1979. In addition to researching this subject, I often speak about the Sixties on public radio and television networks, and also teach a near-permanent graduate-level course on the Sixties at Beijing Foreign Studies University. But why then the Sixties, that "most evocative of American historical labels"? 1 Because that "fatal attraction" of the American 1960s was the grand narrative of the civil rights, student, and antiwar movements, and their composite program of political and cultural liberation: participatory democracy, personalized politics, racial integration and equality, and respect for Third World cultures. For me, however, the period is important not just for these political movements in and of themselves, but also for the musical innovations it brought. What was central was their integration into politics, making the one movement inconceivable without the other. It is therefore essential to emphasize not only their contemporaneity but also their mutual dependence and fusion. This chapter will basically consider how the combination of musical lyrics and politics that occurred in the social movements of the 1960s was an important source of cultural transformation. Between the 5th and 3th centuries BC, at the turn between the Early and Late Iron Age, a significant number of fortresses were built in the in the East Carpathian area. A dynamic micro zone in this period is represented by the northern area of the Central Moldavian Plateau. In the analyzed area, we have 11 fortresses belonging to the 4th-3rd centuries BC, 8 of them almost certainly dated in this interval. Using data from LIDAR we managed to map these forts. The most important, considering the significance of the archaeological discoveries made, is the one from Bunești - Dealul Bobului. The economic richness of the local communities is reflected in the large number of imports, visible in almost all archaeological objectives investigated in our area of interest.

Η στοχοποίηση των αμάχων στον πόλεμο", με τις βαρυσήμαντες και στοχαστικές αναφορές σε κρίσιμα ζητήματα –και– ελληνικού ενδιαφέροντος. Ας ελπίσουμε ότι και τα δύο βιβλία θα αντιμετωπιστούν με τη δέουσα ακαδημαϊκή –και όχι μόνο– σοβαρότητα και αυστηρότητα και θα λειτουργήσουν ως πηγή γόνιμων διαισθήσεων για εκκρεμή ζητήματα της ελληνικής ιστορίας και ιστοριογραφίας. Σε ορισμένα από αυτά τα θέματα θα επανέλθω. Να επιστρέψουμε όμως στο βιβλίο. Η μελέτη του Winter, η οποία ρητά και άρρητα συνομιλεί με αυτή την έννοια της τομής του Πρώτου Παγκοσμίου Πολέμου, επαναφέρει τη συνταρακτική διαχρονικά ιστορία του στο προσκήνιο, προκειμένου να υπενθυμίσει ποιες ήταν οι απαρχές της αιματηρής ευρωπαϊκής αποσύνθεσης κατά τον προηγούμενο αιώνα – αναγκαίος όρος, σημειώνει, και για να τις κατανοήσουμε, αλλά και για να τις αφήσουμε, εφόσον το θέλουμε, πίσω μας. Ωστόσο, στο συγκεκριμένο βιβλίο αυτό δεν πραγματοποιείται μέσω της στρατιωτικής, οικονομικής και διπλωματικής ιστορίας της περιόδου, αλλά μέσω της εστίασης στη διαδικασία με την οποία οι Ευρωπαίοι –εδώ η έμφαση είναι στους δρώντες– προσπάθησαν να βρουν τρόπους, δημόσια και ιδιωτικά, ατομικά και συλλογικά, να κατανοήσουν και να ξεπεράσουν τον όλεθρο του πολέμου: η μνήμη, η λήθη, το πένθος και οι τόποι τους. Πρόκειται ακριβώς για μια πολιτισμική ιστορία του Μεγάλου Πολέμου με αυτούς ακριβώς τους άξονες. Ένας όλεθρος που έλαβε πρωτίστως εμπράγματη μορφή στα περισσότερα από τέσσερα εκατομμύρια νεκρούς στρατιώτες της Γαλλίας, Βρετανίας και Γερμανίας, αλλά και στους τραυματίες, τους ανάπηρους, τις χήρες, τα ορφανά, τους εγκλείστους σε ψυχιατρεία, καθώς, όπως σημειώνει ο Winter, «δεν θα ήταν υπερβολή να υποστηριχθεί ότι, μεταξύ των κύριων δυνάμεων που αναμετρήθηκαν, κάθε οικογένεια είχε τουλάχιστον έναν δικό της άνθρωπο να θρηνήσει – πατέρα, γιο, αδελφό ή σύζυγο, καθώς και άλλους συγγενείς, φίλους, συναδέλφους ή εραστές».
