Recent disclosures regarding the relationship between Heidegger's thought and his own version of National Socialism have led me to rethink my earlier efforts to portray Heidegger as a forerunner of deep ecology. His political problems have provided ammunition for critics, such as Murray Bookchin, who regard deep ecology as a reactionary movement. In this essay, I argue that, despite some similarities, Heidegger's thought and deep ecology are in many ways incompatible, in part because deep ecologists—in spite of their criticism of the ecologically destructive character of technological modernity—generally support a " progressive " idea of human evolution. In this lecture we explore the emergence of sacred Christian landscape in the Middle East and follow the ways it is transformed from a mythological landscape into a landscape of myth. Harnessing a long durée approach and both textual and geographic analysis this study follows the intricate ways virtual enactments (sacred texts) are used, time and again, by different actants in different settings to construct a spatial meaning of the site with a rather vague connections to the original geographic settings. We argue that signifying a material landscape as a mythological one involves a long process of imagining and reifying, which ultimately transforms it into a landscape of myth, which means more of a spatial imagination than physical geography. Christian sacred landscape is suggested as a medium that prompts mythology and mythological interpretation and in the current endeavor, we follow this process as transpired in the region which is the cradle of Christianity past and present.
